opinions or ideas?

I'm sorry, but we're all out of nearfield monitors... would you care for these cups with a wire attached to them instead??

:D

recycled info.: Yamaha NS-10s, studio standards, sound horrible, "if you can make your mix sound good on them it'll sound good on anything". Nine out of ten persons interviewed in a recording studio will have one or more Yamaha NS-10 speakers sat behind them, probably mounted on their side.

I have always hated NS-10's. They are so harsh. Very unforgiving, yet so many studios seem to use them. I have found that they cause ear fatigue faster than many other monitors. I rather monitor through a boom box.

What's your budget Mr. Celt? And where you located in Missouri?

My view of the NS10's is that I really hate to mix on them, but I do like to take my finished mixes and put it thru a pair of NS10's to see how it sounds. These monitors don't translate to the real world particularly well, but if something is out of place within my mix, even slightly, the NS10's will show it.

In my opinion they are only good as a reference, they are not comfortable to listen too for long periods of time. I know that most pro studios have them, but I can pretty much guarantee that they are used as reference monitoring, and not main monitoring.

my 2 cents

hmmmm, if somebody offered me a pair cheap I'd definitely grab em, to go alongside my awesome Event 20/20's. The 20/20's are much easier to listen too, and can be listened too for long periods of time without ear fatigue, and it's always a pleasure to listen to any CD I buy through them and put my critical listening skills to practice :D

"very unforgiving"...

wouldnt that be good for a monitor?

had a computer crash, but I'm back!

as far as my budget....I don't have one!!! my band went ahead and picked up the NS10's....haven't got to use them yet, but will very soon...

As far as where I am in MO, it's a little town called Higginsville in central MO about 20 miles north of Warrensburg.....

Thanks for all the advice / info....I'm going to look into some other options to add in with the NS's if necessary.....

Good Move....

There is a reason they are so popular.. (or were so popular).... The Truest Monitors my ears have heard...

I switch between them and my YSM1's......

Someone mentioned the fact that they are fatiqueing, and I think thats good for studio monitors....

I EQ all of the fatigueing frequencies out, After all thats the whole basis of the famous quote "If it sounds good on NS 10s, it will sound good anywhere"

You gotta make it sound good on them...

Other speakers don't "point out" frequencies as good as my NS 10's.. (in my opinion, and in my listening)

My NS10s Even make my steely Dan cds sound bad.

Im still learning mine but getting super results from them.

Big Improvement over my monitor ones.
