Ok guys, I'm gonna say something here. I don't give a damn if you worked 20 years for your shit. I DID. However, when someone posts a picture of that much gear, their 16, and they say they've earned the money to buy it themself, I'm gonna call them on it cause I'm no damn fool. No, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference Noisedude. But frankly, I don't like liars, and when I see it, I'll say something whether you like it or fucking not  And what the hell do you mean by leave the kid alone? If he's old enough to post shit here, he's old enough to learn to tell the fucking truth....so eat me.

I actually did buy all of my stuff.. or got it from people that had stuff lying around. My parents bought me my three guitars and my first drumkit. The kit was $50 and the guitars total out at about $400. Cheap stuff, but it works.

I really do get a lot of awesome deals. 3 of my drumkits I got for free. I have a bunch of cymbals I got for free from people. I'm not exactly sure why, but they gave them to me. My guitar head, a Peavey 5150, I got for $200. My one guitar is an Ibanez RG570.. I got it for $90.

I've also had a job since I was 13. I worked at a bar washing dishes under the table. I made $6.50 an hour.

I'm not saying everyone is me.. but it's possible. That's all. :)

Oh yea.. I bought my monitors with my "college fund".. a WHOPPING $500. I'm glad my parents saved up a lot. Ha. (I know it sounds disrepectful, but it was only $500. Seriously. I had to pay for everything as it was. I start paying payments on my $1300 bill next month.)

I'm just saying, not arguing. But yea.. a lot of people like to say that their parents stuff is theirs. Heh.

Hey Geet -- you don't have to justify where your stuff is from just because someone is offended by your age/gear combination or whatever. Hope you are having fun and that you will be successful creating music.

Rick -- you are way out of line here IMHO. This thread is about showing pix of studios, not about justifying where the gear came from.

I like Rick, he knows his shit. I'd rather have him at least understand where I'm coming from and respect me for what I'm doing than to have a chip on his shoulder about me. :)

This thread is neat, though.

I wish I had the studio I was in tonight. He claims he bought it all himself.. but I don't believe him. I'm under the impression he's like 50k in debt. The kid has a G5 with a Digi002 rack. Genelec monitors, Control24, Omnirax desk, Avalon stereo pre, that ISA 4-channel Focusrite, and an ART MPA Gold.

He's also got a 7-piece Starclassic Birch kit with tons of high-end Sabian cymbals. Two rooms with double wall contruction, not floated though.

It's seriously a NICE setup. It's too bad he sucks. :p I whoop his ass with my cheap shit.

16 eh?

That must be one hell of a paper route you have!

Nice setup, dude!

Cheers! :)
If you guys wanna throw stones at Rick, I'm stepping in front of him because I was the first out of the gate here to question how a 16 year old got all that sweet gear.

Looking at the poll results of this thread, though, the overwhelming opinion seems to be one of envy and jealousy.

Cheers! :)

Lets get something straight here. First off, I don't have a beef with anyone who posts pics here. And Geet, I don't have a chip on my shoulder towards anyone either. And what the fuck would I have to be jealous of? I've got a nice little hybrid home studio with TWO MSR-16's, synched via midiizer with a 42b mixdown deck, a 32 channel Lexicon digital setup etc etc. So thats pure rubbish.

What you and the rest of you guys need to understand here is real fucking simple. The name of the game is honesty. I grew up with those values, which in this day and age seems to be disappearing fast. But if I have anything to do with it, I'll call a horse a horse any time I damn well choose, and thats that. Too much shit goes by in this world that is a bald face lie, including the Prez of the good ole USA, and no one says shit. Well I've got news for the world. Pretty soon you won't know WHO to trust, and thats what its about friends. But just in case you DON"T get it, I'll spell it out for you again.

Not to continue the controversy too much further, but when I was 14 years old, I had three jobs. I've never had an "allowance" or anything like that. I even had to pay rent during high school. By the time I was 17 I had purchased a $3,000.00 mountain bike, a few hundred dollar road-racing bike, expensive packpacking equipment, and was well on my way to having a pretty nice knife collection.

He might be telling the truth. Especially if he got a lot of that stuff for *free.*

you might want to check your old jobs for openings :D

No one says shit about George Dubya? I remember driving in Austin just the other day, and seeing protesters with signs dogging Bush. People say shit about that, just in case you were serious.

I don't really care if you believe me or not, but here's my story, just to give you an idea. Growing up in a family of super christians, and deciding to jam slayer when I was 13 or 14, my parents instantly chose not to support that. I bought a shitty ibanez guitar at a pawn shop with 50 bucks from christmas money. I played for a few months without an amp, I usually borrowed a friends, or I used friends' gear when I'd go jam in garages with them. When I was 14 years old, I mowed as many lawns as possible, and also worked at a snowcone stand, since those were the only jobs I could have at my age. Music was my life, it's all i cared about(still is). Playing guitar opened up a whole new world for me. Cheesy? Yes. True? Yes. So when I got money, I spent it on gear. That's how it was, that's how it still is, only now I can have better jobs.

This is ridiculous. Call me a liar all you want, and I'll call you a judgmental piece of shit.

Rick, you're being an asshole. An honest asshole, perhaps, but an asshole nonetheless. You have a bunch of chips on your shoulder and your desire to rip on someone just because you don't believe something totally inconsequential as how much of their gear they bought shows your pathetic superficiality for what it is.

Put your dick away and count to ten. Then get lost.

Hello drummerdude666. Say I wasn't trying to pin you to the wall, but when I see what you posted as "worked soooo hard for", and you're only 16, well, I don't buy it. That wasn't any of my business, but just for the record...
fitZ

I'm not a lier, and i don't appriciate people calling me one.

Like i said if you read my respose, a lot of the gear isn't mine. I'm in 5 bands. The marshal stack is my guitarists and the marshall bass amp is one of my bassists. The Guitars are all my famlies, and im sorry for repeating myself if people read my previous post but my dad and brother play guitar. Musical family.

My Dads been playing since he's 14 and so has a few guitars now that he's pushing 50. My brother owns a guitar and a amp as you need one to practice and kids like to have their own gear. Goes with being a kid.

The drumkit is mine. I've been playing drums for 5 years and I teach 12 kids in my spare time. I get my gear cheap as i take all my pupils to one music shop so i know the guys very well I get 20% all gear as i bring them a huge amount of sales. Do you not think i deserve this? I've paid for it in full by myself.

What are you suggesting i did to get this gear? I stole it? Sooo a kid has ambition and takes what he does seriously; because of this he has nice equimpent....oh i seeeeee i MUST have stolen it.

I've worked my ass off finding studios that will take me on, so i can learn more. Not for money, I just wanted to understand more about what i love doing. As it turned out after 2 months of helping the studios and just sitting quietly in the back listening and learning, 2 out of the 3 studios I helped at paid me for my work and then offered me a part time job setting up drums, tuning them, and being the guy that makes coffee and fixes leads.

Also i record bands in my studio. All of the bands i record are young and i dont charge them much as i appriciate how hard it is to be in a band, and how tight money can me. The way i see it is that i'm learing all the time and getting experience so when i do start to charge enough to live off. I'll know my stuff, and i'll know that I can do the work for the bands.

VSpaceBoy - I dont understand you. What would be the point in me or tylerxxx lieing about this? So some people from a forum we've never met will have more respect for us? But just because someone has expensive gear doesn't mean i respect them...

Maybe i dont belive that you afforded all the gear you have. You see i recon your unemployed and have been all your life, so all the gear you've had is stolen....Doesn't make sense does it. Its totally my imagination. But its the same as you not beliving me i've paid for all my gear myself. Why cant you take my word for it?

I'm thinking about trying something like this with a local guitar shop. Did you just go in and say, "how about you give me money off if i make referrals"? Or did you just hang out in there til they knew who you were?

lol - There's a rival music shop just down the road where i previously bought all my gear from. My drum teachers son was the drum manager there so it was the natural place to go... But he was an ass.

So i went to the other shop and I tried out a few drum kits waiting for the drum guy to appear. I was playing when a guy came up behind me and asked me how i was playing that fast - he said he'd never seen that before.

I play using the moella technique. Its a combination of downstrokes and upstrokes. Anyway i showed this guys a quick bluffers guide to it (it's taken me 3 years to get it perfect). We got chatting and he asked what i kit i played, where i got it from etc. I told him i got it from the other rival store, but id decided to buy all gear from here from now on as long as the drum guy was nice.

To which he replied he was the drum guy! It went from there really... I asked him what low end kits he had as one of my pupils was buying a kit. He told me he liked the stagg kits and he was trying to shift the red ones. By next week i had persuaded my pupil to buy a red stagg kit. He gave us 10% off.

Now all the gear i buy i get 20%. I've also told all my bands to shop at the place and when they buy stuff make sure they mention my name, thats how it worked for me :D

DUDE!! We have the same console!

I've been trying to find something to put in my blank panel under the meters for years....my most recent idea is a 7 " USB touch screen LCD monitor.

Do you have yours in a console?

Yes sir. I built something for it to set in. There's a picture of my rig on page 12 of this thread.

Dude, if you got plans or measurements I would love to make a console like that for mine...just a little bit wider. PM me if you got any.
