I'm tired of wasting my time!

...I'm heading to the mountains where the air is clean and smells fantastic...

........

...Internet 2.0 is thankfully dying; albeit a slow death, it's a death nonetheless.

I made that move almost 30 years ago, but even before that, when I was still living with mom & dad, we lived in a more rural/country environment...
...the sub-suburbs! :D
Haven't lived in a big city since my early childhood.
I commute almost 45 miles one-way in order to maintain the open-air/mountain vibe.
Good luck to you...though I hear the winters can be hell if you go north!

Yeah...the Internet is getting played out. Not that it will go away, it's just losing it's fascination and geewiz vibe.
I spend less of my free time on it than I use to...though my IT day gig keeps me connected all day long.
Every once in awhile I think about the pre-Internet days (yes, I CAN remember them)...and for the life of me, I can't figure out how it got this way?!
I mean...I use to keep pretty busy, never bored...so I don't know why I even spend the time I do on the Internet.
Though I guess it has it's "moments". ;)

He aint gonna take the PA is he? I mean...wadda we gonna do without subwoofers!?

Ya know, I live in the boonies, and without the internet, I'd never be able to buy my Layla3G, new guitar strings, much less figure out how to burn a CD years and years ago.

The tech forums at the various products have proved invaluable, since I've never met another person face to face that owns Superior Drummer :laughings:

How do you figure that, Glen? I'm not challenging you, you may well be witnessing a trend in the US that we're still totally oblivious to in Central Europe.
I can't speak for how things are by you in the New New World, but over here in the Old New World, the trends for the Internet are slowly returning to the old Net 1.0 saying, "It's about the CONTENT, stupid." People are starting to realize that they don't give a shit about what this guy had for breakfast or what that guy thinks about the latest news of the day, unless that guy actually has something worth saying. Personal blogs and Twitter use are on the decline and their use for actual real information purposes or commercial use are on the rise.

People are starting to realize that not all opinions are created equal, and that while the right to free speech is a wonderful thing, it's one that's best treated with the respect it deserves and not just used as an excuse to inflict one's ego upon the world, because, frankly, nobody else really wants to hear it. Terry's response is a kind of canary in a coal mine reaction to that. (I know, I know; doctor, heal thyself ;) )

I've lived my whole life in Chicago; I know all about winter ;) :D. And winter in the Rockies can be absolutely beautiful. And as far as north, the Rockies run all the way from Canada to Mexico. each latitude with it's own charm. I haven't yet settled on exactly where I'd wind up; it could just as easily be New Mexico as it could be Idaho. All I know is that I need less population density and better-smelling air than I've got now. Not to mention that Chicago is an extremely flat place; a little third dimension is a rejuvenating thing for me. I've been backpacking in the Rockies twice, and neither time did I want to come home.

Some people are just bad at the internet.

As a side-note, I sometimes feel as though I'd accomplish a lot more as a human if I just got the fuck off of the internet. Anyone else feel that way? I've strongly debated it many times... Just how important is an internet presence these days, vs. how important people THINK it is?

The ONLY 'GREEN': < 1.27 BABBIES EACH!

Well.. it won't be 'fresh and 'cool and "special" if everybody friken moves there will it? !

:p:D :)

I accomplish more when I cut down on net time, but it's too important to me to cut out completely. I think it's like TV - you decide how much you're going to watch and where you draw the line. Of course, I don't have a TV...:laughings:

I love the Rockies...been skiing out there a few times...Colorado, Wyoming.
If you end up south in New Mexico, I may see there you one day...
...northern New Mexico is where I would like to retire to. :)

Though I guess now that you know that...Idaho looks more appealing to you!!! :laughings:

I don't know if moving from corn to potatoes is such a hot idea or not ;), though I understand that it's really beautiful up there. Possibly even eastern Washington state.

But yeah, I've had the northern New Mexico, west/southwest of Colorado area as a finalist, somewhere within the Grand Junction/Colorado Springs/Santa Fe triangle, maybe? But we'll see. You know how real life tends to get in the way of the best-laid plans. :o I'm not bold enough to make any predictions yet.

S S G have you not considered New Hampshire?
I've been around the world and back and always ended up back here in the shire.
Probably the best thing here aside from the facts of location that your looking for is.......... my home, shop/warehouse, and studio are rarely locked at night in fact I don't even know where my house keys are!

I'm from the big city and I gotta tell ya', just reading that made me go run to make sure everything I have hadn't been stolen!

This will be my final post on the Home Recording site! I joined about 3 years ago,(I think. one loses track at my age). During that time I have gone from newbie to senior member, which has to do with the number of comments I've posted and absolutely nothing to do with recording skills or knowledge acrued. I've searched through each subject category for any bit of knowledge that might assist me in my own pursuits as a home recordist and found little of value. What I have learned is that the average contributors to this site range from totally ignorant to knowledgeable, pro studio operators. Most are in the first category. I've suffered insults, slurs, irrevelent comments and downright putdowns by some folks who probably talk a better game than they could actually perform. I even put up a site where my own songs could be reviewed and commented on. To my surprise I only recieved great compliments, both on the recordings and my musical talent! To those folks I again humbly appreciate your compliments. The main thing that I've gleaned from all this is, I am probably more advanced in my recording ability than most of the members here, and that includes several that set them selves up as experts! As I stated earlier, I am too old to waste my time composing comments and answers here. I'd rather spend it at honing my skills hands on in hope that each recording I do will be better than the last. To the few that seriously tried to help, thanks again. To the egocentric snobs who insist on winning a debate more than relevant participation to reach a harmonious answer to a problem I say, you too are wasting your time trying to prove to others that you are something your not and are not capable of being! There are more than likely people who will join as I did and, for their sake I hope they find this site more meaningful and rewarding than I. I have to assume that I probably heve looked at the world through rose colered glasses which is no doubt a result of my upbringing and the society I grew up in. However, if my experiences here are typical of what society is becomming I will have no part in it! Good luck to you young folks. Trust your ears and your insticts and the music. It will lead you to your goals. Take constructive criticism in good faith and ignore the rest! Goodbye and Good luck.

You passed the audition. Spend your time recording and leave the BBS to everyone else. I come here for entertainment.

I'm assuming either someone didn't like his music or disagreed with him about how to do something.
It's funny how sensitive some folks are.

What part of NH do you say you lived in? a cross street and street address would be helpful? ; )

Ya I've visited OZ many time and the emerald city has a lot to offer but when you come right down to it. there's no place like home... there's no place like home...there's no place like home.

Hey this is new today :drunk: to bad I don't drink, or like spankings :spank: :laughings:

Maybe....but if you feel you are wasting your time on the forums...it's your own fault.

While every forum has its outlandish, kooky attitudes and characters who base much of their forum contributions on "shock value"...
…there's also all kinds of positive reasons for being on the forums, like getting useful info/knowledge about techniques and equipment, meeting other musicians and audio buffs, and some social entertainment and interaction (we won’t even mention The Cave :D ).

I think when people can't get a handle on how to extract at least some of the above positives from their forum interaction...
...maybe they ARE just wasting their time. ;)

Yup, I think Terry needed to spend some time in The Cave to get acclimated :laughings:

Then on these parts he wouldn't get so ruffled.

Now, can someone tell me how I can close mic a cannon w/o clipping the mic, the pre and the AD

I admit I have never been any further northeast than Philadelphia but I would like to; I understand that it's lovely up there, especially in the fall (plus I like maple syrup ;) ), but I have been through the Blue Ridge mountains and a small bit of the Appalachian Trail in Maryland and such, and while the Appalachians do have their own attraction, they just don't have the same feel - let alone scale - of the Rockies. If I'm going 3D, I'm going 3D all the way :D. But who knows, maybe if/when I take my long overdue trip up that way, I may fall in love with it up there too.
