Hey B,
I choose not to comment on the mix and recording because I think it 's great, and a good representation of what you are doing.
....the writing however I would like to positively comment on. I loved the song.... classy, not too overindulgent (I think the speaking part at the begining would be ok with a little more work on the vocal itself)..... a great song. Great Metal ...and ya gotta love that.....

I like the song and the guitar but I'm not crazy about the mix. What did you record this with? Maybe remix it and you'll have a better product. Rockin' song though!

I just played it on my radio. Sounds good to me. he he he
Rock on dude.

Satch - thanks for bothering..I appreciate that vocal comment...

Scott Tansley - appreciate the comments....I wouldnt give the Pod Pro all the credit on this because the rhythm was a SansampGT2 for distortion, and it went into the Pod for emulation only...I then sent that through a Blue Max compressor...I gave a complete description of how I recorded all the guitars if you feel like looking back...thank you for the feedback, I do appreciate it..

Noble Savage - I am truly speechless.... that is one of the greatest things someone could ever hope to hear...I thank you for making it seem like my tunes almost have a purpose...

plummet - appreciate the feedback....As far as the sound....I spent a lot of time listening to it over and over and over and kept finding new things I hated about the sound.....so I erased the whole song after I made a mix and tried to correct everything I disliked about the other version.....If you could look back, I gave a complete description of how I recorded the guitar..it's on the other page I think...If you have any specific things you want to know about this..please ask...I don't have any expensive gear of any kind and it was recorded on a Tascam 788 portastudio....thanks again and just ask if you want to know anything about this...

Guernica - thanks a lot......the beginning was a sample from "Shadow of the Vampire"...I think I have to work some things out still.......I really didn't think this tune was metal but it's nice to hear that others do...I appreciate your songwriting comments...it's hard to get unbiased opinions from friends and family.... so thank you again...

mr.wilson - thanks for the listen, I have recieved some good tips about how to improve this mix......thanks for the feedback..I appreciate you bothering even though there were a lot of responses....I do appreciate them all...

dtb - thanks dude..I tried to hear your song but the server was down..I'm looking forward to hearing later..

Thanks again to everyone who bothered to drop a comment....As I said before...you can always count on me for a listen and comment on your tunes....I am unworthy of the amount of great response I have recieved....:)

Sam

--EDIT----:)

Here's how the rhythm guitar was recorded,

Sansamp GT2 for distortion..into Pod Pro for emulation..into a Blue Max compressor....and played twice...one guitar track was sent through a BBE Sonic Maximizer....

the leads,

Boss PS-5 pitchshifter pedal..into Pod Pro.....into the Blue Max compressor...into recorder....(788 portastudio)

the bass,

Sansamp into Blue Max into BBE,

the drums,

Roland TD-8 hooked up to pd 5's,7's and 9's...I played the drum pads.......added a bit of compression and e.q.

the vocals,

EV mic (I really need a new one), into Digitech vocal 300 into the Blue Tube mic pre..into the Blue Max compressor....into the BBE...

I like the idea of running the GT2 through additional cab emulation. I'm sure it adds fullness and warms up the track.

Hell yeah!

Btw, more stuff coming on my Nowhereradio page soon. As you probably noticed, there's 2 metal tracks and one acoustic. I'll get more up once I'm done with my mic placement technique experiments.

your RIGHT...and same back to ya.

Lopp - 'crush your enemies':D I didn't see those 2 songs up there last time, they were both cool!!! I guess you have a Sansamp...I really like the distortion from it...I recently picked up a J-station and that's pretty cool too...I have a few different ones now for all sorts of different distortion flavors.....kinda like the poormans Tri-Axis.....since I cant afford that, I keep buying all sorts of different distortion boxes. I think you said you have a Tri-Axis...man if I had that, I would drop a mic in front of it, and throw the Sansamp and the rest of the garbage out the window...:D thanks again Lopp

It will officially be Easter in 10 minutes......so I will say again,
Happy Easter to anyone who reads this.......AND anyone who don't.:D

No SansAmp on those tracks. Both Jabberstomp and Crusher were recorded years ago with a Mesa/Boogie Quad on the Mark III channel using a Lee Jackson power amp with a 2x12 with unknown speakers. I have since realized that the Mark IIC channel can give fuller tones (a la Master of Puppets). Pretty sweet for a Mesa/Boogie preamp that you can get for around $400. I have yet to record a full tune with it or the TriAxis (although I have tons of takes on cover tunes with my experiments).

That's cool to have the GT2, the POD and the J-Station. Let me know if you ever post an objective review comparing all of them.

Happy Easter back at ya Sab, mixmkr and everyone else! :)

:cool:Lopp,

So that's what they used on "Master'.....huh.....thanks for sharing that...I really love that sound...

Here's everything I have for guitar,

Pod Pro
SansampGT2
KorgG1 distortion processor - Dimebag used it on 'Floods'
J-Station
Digitech 2112
and a bunch of BOSS pedals..

I have 5 cheap guitars that I put expensive pickups in... I have to intonate them monthly..but I have learned how to do it myself and it's not too bad...I also have 2 basses...a 5 string..tuned a half step down...and a four string set up for drop C#......

Each processor has something that the others do not.......I should have just saved my coin and bought a Boogie.....Oh Well...maybe soon.................Maybe I'll also be able to by a guitar made in America too..:D.............I really would love an SG, and an American strat.....

thanks again for the words bro...

If you ever want any sound samples just let me know.....I never use just one processor in any given song.....I am a moron and often make things hard on myself....:D

thanks again....

peace:cool:

Sam - a.k.a..............B Sab.

I listened to ‘1 minute 34 seconds of weeping’. That’s really great. That sounds like my Moog Opus 3 in there. Then I listened to ‘Unwell’. You win. That’s one of the best I’ve heard from any unknown artist. I’m not a critic. I just like a piece for what it is, regardless of levels, too much or too little reverb, how drums are miced, etc. and your piece rocks ass, sounds great, and you are a winner. I’ll definitely listen to the rest of your stuff. Ya, an American Strat, you and me both.

Good art rock demo song. There are some ideas in the song that work very well.

Tightened up the guitar playing a bit. You lose impact with them being a bit wishy washy on "grooving" with the drums.

The vocal production won't sell. The part itself is mostly fine, but the obvious Ozzy sound detracts from it. The music doesn't really sound anything like anything Ozzy has ever done, and I suppose in my mind, the vocals shouldn't either. I don't know of a nicer way of putting it than that friend. I just know that if being signed is a goal, a unique vocal is the quick way to it. My experience with A&R people is that they REALLY pay attention to the singer, and the influence in this song is too obvious. It could be done well with a different approach to the vocal timbre.

Snare is a tad weak like stated earlier. Toms don't resonate at all. The Kick could come up a LOT in the mix and not bother me at all. I don't know, the drums just sort of sound disjointed with the rest of the production.

Got the guitar tones nailed. Nice job.

If you gotta keep that vocal, try a 3dB cut at about 400Hz with a 1 octave Q. That should at least get rid of some of the "milky" sound. I do like the delay effects you used. Good job there.

Read my first line. Since I don't really know your musical goal, it is hard to give an appropriate opinion. If you just want to throw out a CD for local release and get some gigs, maybe even up a "regional" level, this song/arrangement/production puts you in the mix. If you are looking at big label deals, well, I nicely say this, get a producer!

Will have to listen to a couple more. Got a dial up, so I don't do a lot of MP3 downloading right now. But you have been nice enough to listen to most of the crap I have posted lately, so I need to return the favor! :)

monty- hey thanks a lot.......those were uplifting comments, and I especially appreciate that you still bothered after the amount of great feedback I got.... I do not deserve the amount of response that I got here and every single comment was greatly appreciated.... I'm buying you an American strat for those kind words.:D thanks

:cool:sonusman:cool: - Excellent..........thank you VERY MUCH for taking the time. I didn't know you were on dial up otherwise I wouldn't have bothered you at all........It is especially appreciated because it probably took you longer to hear it, and you probably have less time than most..........please know that I am grateful...

Those were some great tips and I totally understand what your saying.....You are obviously the real deal judging by the sound of your last song, and I am honored you wasted your time commenting on my stuff..... I know of no where else I could have recieved such accurate insight about my tunes.......

I'm not really shopping for a record deal or anything.....It was a buddy of mine who told me to drop this off at the local radio station because they play homegrown bands... He felt it was as good as some of the bands he heard, even thought it's just me.....and he said I spend sooo much time on these songs and never do anything with them.......I didn't think I should bother trying to do anything except for burnin' a few C.D.'s for friends.....I just love recording and even have been getting in trouble at work because I take off sometimes just to finish a song....It's like I cant relax sometimes until it's finished....and it never is.........:)

You were dead on about everything you said..........I can't seem to stop with the 'Ozz' tones...I try to steer clear but when I listen back, I always end up with an 'Ozzy' type vocal singing over non 'Ozz' type music... I can't seem to shake it.....I still have a ways to go with my drums but this entire thread was a great learning process........I really love it when the 'administration' bother to comment..

I know I sound like I'm kissing your ass, but after hearing that last thing you put up, I don't care how I sound.......You have the sound I'm trying to get and it would be wise to listen to your suggestions and express my thanks....

thank you....when I woke up today and saw you commented, I was pretty stoked.......I will be reading your other posts to try and extract as much information from you as possible.......thanks

:D:cool: thanks again to everyone who bothered to drop a comment.....everyone was greatly appreciated and as I said......everyone who did can always count on me for a listen and comment on there tunes....even though I know next to nothing about anything............thanks

Sam

B.SABBATH, send me your email address so's I can tell you where to send the Strat. A '57 will be adequate.

Oh, I forgot to mention: You have my permission to send this to radio station, OK ?

monty - it's on the way

Cranky One - Your are a man not easily pleased....so I appreciate that..

Very cool song!
I loved the different tempos and textures
Excellent guitar sound. The drums sounded the slightest bit offbeat from time to time, but not too bad!Fun tune!
