If only for a moment.....
that the Behringer thread closed after 15 hours and only 28 posts. It had the makings of a wider debate of great value to cheapskates, hobbyists and newbies alike. It seems odd to me that it was closed so quickly when the "Let me introduce myself" famous Dave {as fun and funny as it has been} thread has gone on for almost ten times the number of posts and arguably shows little sign of abating.
Ho hum.

In all fairness the Dave thread is pretty awesome.

- Why did that thread get closed anyway? Was it closed by the author? We could always pick it back up here :D

Scotti closing his thread is no great loss. There are many threads in HR that dwell on Behringer bashing and rebuttals.

Right...I believe it was closed by the OP...that's his choice.

I agree with grimtraveller...there is a deeper debate, but it never seems to get there because people react in an extreme way about gear, especially gear they own/use.

I find it somewhat amusing at the amount of strong positive comments people will try to apply to cheap, crappy gear at times...or the reverse, where they feel that anyone who has more expensive gear (or more expensive then theirs) is automatically an audio snob for promoting higher-end gear. :D

There's no question that when you are young and/or poor or just not yet hitting your earning potential...you gotta make do with what you can afford.
I don't really try to shoot down anyone talking about some cheap/crappy gear they just bought and are excited about...but I think it's OK to point out the "value" of that gear without doing it in a mean way, mainly because some of those same folks will come back and have all kinds of questions/issues about their recording quality, and often the gear is partially at fault.
I wish I had a $1 for every post I see about USB mics and poor sounding audio...so I won't hesitate to say to people that USB mics generally suck. ;)

Behringer is an OK "first step" if that's what your budget allows, nothing wrong with that...and some of it can even find its way into more serious audio use...but on the whole, it really isn't anything to actually praise...IMHO.
To the guy who posted the comment about the Behringer 9024 being considered something special in some circles...if you know anyone that wants one, let me know...'cuz I'm putting mine up on eBay in the next few days. It's mint/clean and has the AES Digital I/O option installed, the manual, and original box. :)

True, but who's going to search them out and bump them ? Scotti's thread was now.

You're probably right. I think he was disappointed that he didn't get more of a fight, which I'm pretty sure is what he was looking for.

On another note, I think people should ask "permission" to close threads and have a damn good reason. Just because someone starts a thread, it doesn't mean they OWN it. I've seen too many people close threads when they have no business doing that, and there's usually no reason to close it. Even if someone gets the answer they were looking for, there's almost always more room for different opinions and angles on the subject. This is supposed to be a discussion forum. I've seen Newbies close threads when they THINK they got the answer to their question, but it wasn't a correct answer.

I'm not referring to the Behringer thread, because I couldn't give a crap if that useless thread stayed open or not. But, generally speaking, when most people close threads, there was no reason to do it.

Your right.
Sometimes they close threads because they don't like the direction it's going in or the answers they are getting...especially if the answers go against their own views.

Don't wanna play no more...CLOSED THREAD! :D

I'm actually surprised Dave didn't close his own thread long ago.

^^^^^^^^^^ This articulates it well. I fully take the view that the starter of a thread isn't the owner of it, just the OP that kicks it off. I like it when threads assume their own shape. There's a couple I've begun that went off in a direction I could not have forseen and I was really surprized. I learned alot from that, though.

It would be really funny if you closed this thread...

Just another testament to the power of the very Famous Dave.

Over here in Oz, the price of gear has been ridiculous, up until recently certain brand gear was the only option. one day I'll have no behringer gear, but thats the future. It could be worse.

Yup guess it can.

Lets pick this up again.
I think we should start a list here of the good and not so good behringer stuff for future reference.

Good ; the Behri Composer Pro XL MDX2600 Compressor (with Expander/Gate/Limiter)

Not so good ; Behri DSP110 Shark EQ Delay and Feedback Destroyer Unit

WHO NEXT?

Decent; PRO-XL HA4700 headphone amp

Bad; triple oscillating penetrator with a-mouse intruder
**oops, that was a buttringer:o

after my 'post' IMHO

I didn't know Behringer made buttringers! Can they help my vocal tracks?

Only the falsetto ones. Sorry, cheap won't get you clear deep tone. Well, after some crappy compression, you will get it in the end.

IMHO (smile)
