You're entitled to your opinion, but you can't argue with the huge success achieved by peeps like JZ, Diddy-P, Russell Simmons who thru rap were, able to venture into new avenues of business!

BTW, tubes, what genre of music do you indulge in?

there huge succes is b/c noone has good taste anymore. rap is not music its doooody with a capital D.

but the world does revolve around metal.

This has turned into a debate (and that's being generous) about what kind of music sucks and what doesn't. Music is art. If you like something, it's good, and if you don't, it sucks But no one type of music has a monopoly on "good". And within every style of music, there's good and there's bad.

By the way, consult a physician if your horoned condition lasts more than 4 hours.

Just to clarify: my comments were not about rap or hip-hop specifically, they were aimed at the commercial music industry in general.

Maybe the question that needs to be asked is what you're doing hanging out in a parking lot receiving demo tapes?

I'm waiting for someone to hand me a demo cd of something other than rap. :D

i think hip hop production is quite exciting these days..it is a genre where there really aren't any rules at all right now...there is so much that is being done that i think it is keeping at a top seller. producing hip hop at a high level is not an easy thing..i am not talking about the local kid w/ a looped sample over a drum..im talking guys who know how to arrange and layer sounds and really make great music.

I see no problem with what Killah is doing.
He told the guy to re-do it, because he spotted problems, he wasn't being big headed, he was trying to help the dude get the best of his stuff, and if that's a BAD thing, then some of you engineers are FUCKING LAZY.

Sometimes it's a solid line between playing engineer and producer, though. KillER offered to mix a song for a newb (no non-newb would need or want to take such a blind offer). He didn't offer to play producer or tracking engineer. Lazy is refusing to take some less-than-perfect tracking and refusing to mix it.

My current project is remixing and mastering a series of 8-channel trackings done by a local musician. He recorded the tracks himself and then handed them over to me for the mix n' master. Some pretty nice stuff going on there. But there are occasional passages on some tracks where if I were the tracking engineer or the producer, I'd have gone back and punched in a new take. We all get those.

I will, of course, keep the original tracks and project files. After I have completed the job asked of me and handed him back my final product, I'll let my boy know just what and where he woulda/coulda/shoulda. I'm sure he'll ask me that anyway. And maybe we'll go back and try a few things if he feels it's worth it.

But I do not reject the entire song out of the gate as being not worth my mixing talent. That's not for me to decide. Nor was KillER in the right place when he decided to pull a Simon Cowell on a guy who was expecting a free mix job.

I got the part about how he doesn't takes crap to mix a track. :D

You all are acting like jerks - you know that scenario in grade school where the kid gets harassed because he's not part of the club... I'm sure you do. Maybe you disagree with something the gentleman said, but stop behaving like monkeys - human beings respect each other.

He said he would be horoned to mix a song for anybody here. He should horon that a mix the tracks that were given to him. He never said they had to be good tracks. I think it's a dishoronable thing to do. :D

He earned every ounce of the disrespect he is getting. To use your analogy, he acted like the class bully picking on the little kid of the playground and stealing his lunch money. Now he comes back trying to defend his position using the English language like he were pointing it at us while holding it in his hand sideways. Which part of the word "thug" do you not understand?

A simple post stating this point of view would have been enough. There's no need to keep beating him into the ground... or insulting everyone having anything to do with hip hop for that matter.
