From the looks of the response chart and the looks of the mic its the same mic. The only reason I can say to take it back is that some day if you want to sell the mic it may be harder to get as much money for the mic as you would if it said Audio techinica on it.
And yes the 2020 is made in china just like everything else is these days. :(

thanks for doing the research and now that i know audio technica is made in china too i feel better. plus the box my mic came in says audio technica too so i guess its all good. thanks :)

Digital reference is Audio-Technica's budget line. The AT2020 and the Digital Reference mics are both made in China, probably on the same assembly line. My guess is the mics are identical, but that's just a guess. Do what you want, but I would probably return the mic, just as was said above, if you want to sell it later, you'll probably get a couple of bucks more for it because it says Audio-Technica on it.
As far as the mic clip, there is a threaded adaptor in it that fits European mic stands, and some South American ones as well, such as Sabrasom. Just put a dime in the slot and unscrew it. You'll find those adaptors in pretty much all mic clips.-Richie

For the sake of not stirring up any more static, some of us here knows who the maker of this mic is

can someone tell me if audio technica mikes are made in america
Apparently Google can, as it gathered for me that some AT mics are made in the US; some in Europe. Just to name another location, My AT4050 was made in Japan.
