OK, here is what I have and this what I think I need, please help me to figure out any other misc. things or point me in the right direction please:
Computer
AHANIX PLATINUM XP; MSI K8T NEO-FIS2R;
AMD ATHLON 64 3000+ (2GHz)
MWAVE (1GB RAM) (512 MBx2)
120GB IDE HDD
56X CDROM
GAINWARD FX5200 (with 2 - 21" monitors)
XP Home Edition SP2

Microphones
3-sm57's (snare, toms, instruments)
1 - beta 52 (kick)
2- JM27 condensers (overheads)
1- Studio Projects B1 (toms, vocals?)
Recording room is 16x24

Alessis 3630 Compressor (I know its junk)
Alessis Midiverb 4 (2)
Samsung ???? 4 head phone amp
POD for geetar/bass
Roland V-drums (I'm trying to record acoustic drums now though)

I'm still using my old Yamaha MD8 for recording. I have been using it for about 5 years now and it has served me well but I think its about time to move on.
I have the computer (I think) to run a decent recording program but I don't know what I need. I know the sound cards usually come with Cubase LE or something similar but from what I have read on here I question how good they are.

Looking for:
compressor
interface/soundcard with 10 ins/outs for micing live drums with the above mics(Was thinking of the Presonous Firepod or the Delta 1010)
software

I would like to have an external board to twist knobs and stuff but have no clue. If any of you guys could help, I would be very appreciative. I have a budget of $2000

Presonus Firepod looks good. I have ordered the Firebox as I do not need any more than 2 inputs. So, yeah, the Preonus would be good for you

you have an excellent computer.
BUT you need two hard drives.
one for win. one for tracks.
i'm just a computer engr.
