Hey guys,

I recently got a Tascam 38 and a Soundcraft Spirit Rac Pac board thrown in with the sale. The board is super nice and seems to be of high quality. After all these years of being in studios to record, I'm finally trying to do some home analog recording.

by connecting the inputs of the 38 to the bottom direct on the board, I was able to record a test signal with my voice.

My question: how do I then playback the signal I recorded through the board? The 38 has eight inputs and eight outputs. I'm confused on how to come out of the machine and into the board. I've also been able to get a control room signal with the board connected to a power amp and speakers, just can't figure out how to get playback. I know it's simple but it's got me head scratchin.'

Here is a link to the board's manual, anyone have any help or suggestions? Please...

Thanks in advance!

(from the manual) "Connect the recorder outputs to the 4 stereo returns. Route the returns to MIX."

That connection will be good enough for monitoring while tracking.

For mixing, connect the outputs of the 38 to the board's mono inputs 1 through 8. (You may want to first disconnect the 38's inputs to prevent a nasty feedback loop if you should inadvertently put a track in RECORD mode or press the INPUT button.)

Thanks Don! I got playback last night, I just need to roll up the sleeves, spit in the palms and figure this thing out. It will be easy once I get a routine together.

Here's a big hint for figuring out these sorts of things: The block diagram is your best friend. The time you spend learning how to read and follow block diagrams will pay off in a huge way.
