Regardless of what others may tell you, it has to make YOU happy. And the only way to do that without monitors (at least in my experience) is to make a test mix and play it on other players, like your entertainment center, iPod docking station, and my favorite mixing station, your car! Take detailed notes of things like (too much bass, areas where mid/high frequencies reip your sinuses out, and of course, where you can't hear certain words, or notes, etc.). Then go back to the studio, make those corrections, and repeat the process again.
Eventually, you'll need speakers though. And even then, I recommend doing the listening on other players.
