Trying to find a reliable tape source for 1/4" tape on 7" reels for my Tascam 22-2. I would prefer Quantegy 456 or whatever else you guys suggest for mastering. I use the deck to add analog warmth to digital masters by bouncing to it and back before mastering the final CD. I went to Quantegy online and they only have 600' 5" reels as of now. Is there another brand that is more available that is good for my use?

Thanks for suggestions to a newbie on your forum.

Herr Doktor,

Supply of Quantegy 456 is pretty spotty since Quantegy went out of business quite some time ago. Your best bet is RMGI SM911, available at US Recording Media and at other online retailers.

Hope that helps!

Doc,
I'm tryed to send a PM to you re the tapes, but it won't go through.
Contact me. I may have some information for you.

I have a few Tascam 22's. I use LPR35 (you can buy new) and Scotch 207 (have to find NOS or used). Scotch is +3 LPR35 is +6, so there's that. I like to use the 207 at 15 ips or the LPR35 at 7.5. LPR35 at 15 ips if I need to keep noise way down. I find the 207 useless at 7.5. Hope that helps.

The Tascam 22-2 will record and play back a 1.5 mm thick tape like Quantegy 456, but you're better off running a 1 mm thick tape like Quantegy 457 or RMGI LPR-35. However, the best Quantegy tape for that machine is actually 407, which, like 457 is to 456, is the 1 mm thick version of 406.
