I think I've narrowed my selections down to one of these two. I've read/heard good things about both of them and my initial reaction having auditioned them was they both sounded great. It'll only be used for home recording (rock/country/jazz). So, what do think?

I would say if you use an amp or two get the GT-6, if you plan on using a direct recording the POD might be the better choice.

I've never found Boss modelling to be great.

POD

I second that, Pod is the shit for direct recording,

GT-6 if you need it more for live work, POD if you will only use it for recording.

I don't like the GT sound very much, but that's just a matter of taste.

I would say, go for the the GT-6. It works great for live performances. as for the POD, i think they are the best to get your sound for recording. i tried using the GT-6 once. it doesn't sounds good.

I own a GT-6 and i think it's great. What you need to know, though, is that it needs a LOT of tweaking and patience... Though you can get pretty much any sound you want out of it eventually.

I've gotten some nice sounds running through my amp and then micing it (for recording it) and that way you dont get the "direct" "fake" guitar sound... Although, the pod might be good if you want to get your sounds quickly and not have to fiddle too much around.

Thanks to all for your comments, suggestions, and sound samples. I pretty much had settled on the GT-6 until I listened to the sound samples and then all bets were off. I guess at the end of the day I'm sure I'd be happy with either one. The GT-6 is a couple of bucks less but it sounds like it requires more tweaking out of the box than the POD xt does. Decisons, decisions.

dude there is no doubt just buy the pod or youll regret it big time.
i bought a zoom gfx8 and they had the new pod xt for the same price and im just about kicking my own butt for buying the zoom over the pod. you do what you want but i know i realy regret it because just like boss zooms amp modeling stinks for recording. the only way you can get a good sound is with alot of patience and hook it up to your amp and mic it, where the pod sounds killer straight into the board, and heck i just went and seen a band saturday that uses nothing but pods on stage, they have no amps on the stage at all and they all wore headphone monitors and they kicked butt and they could get any sound they wanted. i would get the pod if i had it to do over.
god bless tim pate
