I would strive to keep the vocals as dry as possible without sticking out that much. Just a question of levels, eq, compression.
Which piece were you referring to?

Ok I've been following this thread for a while now, and I think its really the time I stop being shy and just come out and say it. This is big label stuff. I know a lot of us hate radio and a lot of us like it, but I'd have to say I do hear some pretty good stuff sometimes on the radio today, and this stuff could really be one of those top songs that gets playd 7 times a day on each station for half a year. And the funny thing about it is none of us would get sick of it. I don't know how in hell nobody is picking up on you. I don't know how you haven't sold 100,000,000,000 records in your lifetime. It gets said that someone is good alot, but you have it! Your voice is incredable, Your song writing even better. These are hits... THESE ARE HITS... THESE ARE HITS!!!!!

See what you are doing you are making me go crazy this is so good.

Whats really impressive is that I'm usually into metal, although I'm up for anything good. But that just more proves this is great.

No matter what you do, keep it up and keep posting these here, they brighten up my days here.

Thanks for the wonderful music. I'm not alone on this.

Hey!
Thanks for the nice comments guys! It's funny. You guys are my 'push' to keep recording whenever I have any free time. :p

The effects on the acoustics were done with gated reversed reverbs, and the whooshing that I think you are describing are two elec. guitar parts, one on a wah pedal and the other one on a rotary sim, panned to make a weird effect.

As promised to some, an old one, with new vocals I re-did over the holidays.
Its really rough right now, but you can get the general flavor of it.

Let me know what you all think.

I would be pissed!

But then again, it has happened to me too, except when it happened, I was in the middle of recording a track that I really dug... it was craptacular.

I am still listening. I will be inspired again, Perhaps I can regain the magic, that had been Mused to me by your song. :)

You already know how I feel about your gift JaZZzzzz. My responses are truely from my heart. There is an aura of that exudes from your music. An aura of genuine talent. No frills, no gimmicks, just real talent. A natural.

If only......

If only means a lot of things.

If only, the right people, with the right connections could hear you.

If only, there were something I could do to insure that happening.

If only, true talent was given true rewards.

Thanks for the response and the kind words (as always!), True.

No one else got a chance to take a listen?

As always, your welkom!!

Kind words perhaps, but they are full of truth.

Oh and BUMP!!! :D

Sweet! Another JazzMang tune! I was out of the loop for a while and didn't see the new one you'd posted.

I love the song structure, the lyrics, and the funky timing on the playing. It's been said over and over that for real, true expression in the vocals, you've got it in spades, and this song fits it really well.

There are couple of things that I personally would change though, but I may not understand everything intended. One is the apparent slowdown in the tempo after the first second. The problem is that it works really well in either tempo...if it were me, I wouldn't be able to choose one or the other. The faster tempo gives more of an upbeat feel, while the slower makes it more contemplative.

The second thing is that I can kind of picture what I'm assuming is the chorus as a section where powerful drums and driving, well defined electrics could come in. Raising the chorus even higher power-wise will increase the contrast between the verses and choruses, giving even more dynamic effect.

Just a couple of thoughts on a song that i'm listening to for the 6th time in a row ;)

Thanks for listening, Sile.

A couple of things:
1) I recorded this song 1 year after I first picked up the guitar and started singing, etc... I did not use a metronome. The song is supposed to all be 1 tempo.
2) I did have drums in this song. I added them a month or two after I initially recorded it. I quickly found that my folly of not using the metronome came back and bit me in the ass again.

I could upload the drum take, but its nasty.

Thanks for the suggestions again. You were right on both times.

Hey Jazz,

Great voice.
The guitar tone captured is sweet and so pristine.
I had the same feelings as sile2001 in regards to some drums entering with some electric guitar coming in and a melodic but very uplifting guitar line to lift and seperate what I think is a great song that has so much potential to move another step upwards and onwards!

Once again Jazz.....great stuff! :)

Listening on my PC speakers as I type....nice big guitar sounds panned nicely. Vocals sit well in the mix - nice voice you have there. Don't care for the high hat rhythm (too many hits?), or the bass drum (too boxy?) But the mix on the instruments and vocals is very good. Good catchy tune that I enjoyed listening to....

(listening through Yorkville YSM1i) My problem is with the kick drum, it just doesn't sit right, probably needs to have a bit more top end, open it up a bit. Really liked the acoustic sound though.

I agree with both of you. The drums are awful. They are the only samples I had at the time. I will eventually get the time to redo the entire song (with a metronome this time!) and fix a lot of these issues.
