For those of you who long to be a "pro" engineer...

I don't think the two writing styles are night and day at all. In fact, I was suprised that lance could write so well for an early-20's bass player. And some of the things that lance says sound like they're written as a 3rd party trying to imagine things from lance's point of view...but it could be the result of him trying to fit into mixerman's existing groove.

This journal makes no sense because I can't imagine that everyone involved, including the delivery people, don't have to sign some sort of non-discolure agreement/statement. Despite what anyone over at prosound says, changing the names and details of an event does not bypass such an agreement.

I would be suprised if Fletcher wasn't simply trying to get in on the fun. Lance's current attitude fits right in with fletcher's don't fuck with me shtick. You know, every time the pros, moderators, or "senior" members of this place have played a gag, it always ended just like this...with a bunch of shit splitting off in different directions because nobody can refrain themselves. Anybody know where I can get some parts for a beta Nikon Multimedia Maker?

It also makes me laugh to hear people at prosound who think that this is some sort of marketing gimick. Marketing to WHOM? Are they planning on releasing an album full of uninspired over-hashed music to a reasonably small group of engineers, wannabe engineers, and wannabe wannabe engineers who will just buy it for the novelty? Haha. Maybe if this was some sort of "spinal tap" thing, but even then, don't overestimate the number of people who are interested in reading this stuff! You didn't have to be into recording or music at all to appreciate spinal tap...hence wide public appeal...hence $$$.

Personally I think Lance and Mixerman are the same guy. I'm a writer (not that that matters). From what I can tell Lance is mixerman trying to sound like a kid. It's not refined enough.
It shows clean through.

How hard would it be to just forget to dot the i's on Lance's entry. Not very

Lance would have been a good strategic invention--if just to keep the posse off of Mixerman's tail.

Well, I'm not saying it isn't possible that Mixerman is writing the "Lance" entries -- and he just did a few dozen things, like putting all the periods after quotation marks instead of where they belong, in order to confuse us. But ... why would he do this again? After a few months of fairly vibrant, interesting articles, he wants to "fool" us with pretty ordinary, tepid, bland prose so we'll ... uh ....

Just consider the description of the drummer auditions. Lance's description is really bland. If Mixerman wrote it, the various candidates would have funny names, among other things.

I am in total agreement with this whole post.

It's not marketing.. If anything It's Fletcher or Even MM just having fun as Lance......

I felt that way right away just by the "tone" of the post..... He's a young, wet behind the ears assistant.. He seems a bit scatter-brained and a push-over on alot of accounts...

He doesn't seem bold enough to call MM a Fat Fuck publicly....

And why??? Just for Editing the Diary or firing him from the diary.... If he was going to explode on the whole thing, wouldn't he have done it back when he discovered the diary, and all the things mixerman wrote about him....????

It just seemed out of proportion.. almost fake.

But thats just my thoughts.....

really mixerman is screwed, Either way he's going to have to deal with Lance. Because if he trys to get him fired as his assistant or the bass player, then he's going to have to discuss it with the rest of the group/studio and by doing that he would have to let them know about the diary.

After a few installments of the Lance Chronicles, I'm not entirely convinced Lance is not Mixerman. Apart from his frequent spelling mistakes, Lance doesn't come across as a different personality altogheter. Consider how often both MM and Lance use the phrase "seeing as..." for instance. Also, my feeling is that Lance's disclosure of Burbank as the location of the recording studio is a piece of misinformation. Why? Because Mixerman gave a hint in Day 14: "...fortunately we are right down the road from the rental drum tech and rental warehouse". Which is pretty handy, I guess, and keeps up the energy recording drums and other stuff. But the only place I could find in LA that fits this description is in North Hollywood. I don't want to disclose the name of the studio here, just in case all this is really happening right now. I'd hate to see MM's and Lance's diaries discontinued.

P.S. The name of the studio might be hidden somewhere in the post above ;)

At this point I really don't give a poo about where this all might or might not be happening. All this fuss is like reading the last page of an Agatha Christie novell while your halfway.

Ignorance is bliss

I think the most incriminating evidence that the Lance diary is not Lance is the constant commenting on the way the drummers look. MM went on and on about fingaz and his parka and its very obvious theres a generation gap between MM and the band and people in their 20s. Which as it happens, is most of the music industry. Every drummer is described MM style, first by how he looks and how his hair is dyed and how he has tattoos. Who cares? I work with people who look like that everyday. Thats what musicians look like currently. Its not "scary." Its only scary and foreign to someone who doesnt socialize with that element and who sees that as somewhat foreign or comment worthy.
Not a 22 year old bass player who lives in LA.

yeah but imagine yourself writing this... you're not a writer by trade and you're trying to continue what someone else has begun. As such, dont you think you'd try and - or maybe just fall into this accidentally - fit into the already created groove? iow, lance might be doing that sort of thing just because it's what mixerman was doing before - let's not forget lance had read all of mm's stuff beforehand.

Why isn't having thousands of people come to their site not a promo or marketing ploy? They want advertisers to put up their adds? they want to show them how many people click on the site.....

I find the arguments with Lance on the PSW forum, entertaining.
As these diarys seem to be now pretty fake, to take up a disscussion with a fictional character and to take it seriously......
;)

I am losing my interest a bit since the Lance diarys. Its getting a bit to much already.

hint?...dont you have the energy to tell us.....

Uhm, it's sort of obvious where you hid your guess of the studio's name, because it's in a phrase that doesn't flow right.

I won't spoil the fun of others who might want to figure it out. I will note, however, that you spelled the word out in ordinary English, while the actual studio uses a "cute" semi-phonetic abbreviation.

I don't know anything close to enough about the LA studio and music-biz scen to comment on how likely your guess is to be accurate.

I do know enough about writing styles to know that either Lance is not Mixerman, or Mixerman has gone way out of his way to write inspidid prose for no obvious purpose. It's just really not the same voice, or the same personality. At all.

Hey, if a phrase doesn't flow right, it may just be my bad English.

Well, keep in mind that if MM is Lance, he is trying to disguise the fact by "downgrading" his writing style. The spelling mistakes seem forced to me as do the "kind of" and "like" insertions. Consider also that Lance's observations are similar to MM's. He doesn't sound like a 22 year old. Plus he doen't seem as close to Uncle Willy as he says he is in the first installment.

Actually, I don't think this is actually happening anymore. As someone else said on Prosoudweb, this seems to be a "comp track" of previous experiences. So it really doesn't matter which studio they're supposed to be in. They're in a bunch of studios at the same time, or none at all, if you ask me.

Still, I wish MM's diary would contiue any time soon, simply because it's entertaining. Soap or reality soap, who cares as long as it's good?

This blows....

I want the last week of posts!

There has been speculation that this thing is put on hold because the powers that be got wind of it...what do you guys think?
