For those of you who long to be a "pro" engineer...

I hate reality TV, but this would make an excellent reality TV show.

I feel bad for dumb ass. Its not his fault he's dumb as shit. Although I would hate to have to spend time with him...

I am an addict.... Thank you Harvey, for bringing this to us....

Much appreciated......

Awesome.

No kidding ! I am addicted too...
Only problem being a day ahead here, is having to wait for the day to end in north america...

Yeah it's great....

I can't believe how much restraint Mixerman has shown in some of the situations.....

I think were a bit different up here... Much more honest to the point of even being rude..........

We would be calling Dumbass that right to his face, and explaining his deficiencies right to him :)

So, is this the L.A. Phony-ness that people talk about...???

Just curious.

Ok, gotta run and get that chocolate muffin :D

Is it just me, or is this the funniest sh*t on the net right now?

Even friends of mine who know NOTHING about recording are eating this serialized story up! Even my MOM thought it was outrageuos- I read a few days out loud and..eh..edited it for "Mom ears" on the fly. :)

I'm thoroughly addicted. I'd buy this CD, cut and paste the whole diary, and keep the two together just for fun. Probably won't find out who the band is, though.

What a treat.

Chris

well it looks like now none of the cd is gonna be credited to the band :)

wonder if they're gonna rewrite the lyrics?

I think it's all going to be non-disclosure..... Sort of like Milli Vanilli, but in a legal way.

The sleeve will probably just say..

Bitch Slap is,
Jonny Hansome-Vocal
Eyore- Guitar
Harmon-bass
Dumb ass-Drums...

WIthout any further disclosure as to who actually played what...

As long as it's not the lead singer, I think they can sneak in whatever they want... but maybe Harvey can clear me up on this.

The scary thing is I wonder how many albums of our favorite bands have had other players "snuck" onto them???

A few, here and there ;)

maybe it's just me, and this is the opinion of a drummer who knows shit about anything, but...

if i were MM and i was working with a band, and the guitarist sulked his head and said "thats good enough" while we were tuning his sound as he walks out the controll room...

that band would be gone. i would kick them the hell outta my studio. too bad he doesn;t get paid without putting up with the kind of people who think something can be "good enough". people like that shouldn;t be allowed to record or play. they're the ones lacking professionality. i would be sick to my stomach to see a drummer who EVER thought his set sounded "good enough" on an album. get out, this studion is for musicians. people who take this shit seriously. not people who wanna just get on stage and bang their heads and make record sales.
i dunno how many times someones been recording my set and said, aww, it sounds good enough to me, and i pack my shit up and out i go. it's as simple as that.

ask yourslef this, would YOU want your "professional level" albums, that will be out on the charts, paying your way to be a musician to be...... good enough??? you better not quit ur day job cuz you won;t be sellin enough records to put new strings on ur guitar.
and as far as cuttin on MM for not having the best attitude, from what i've read, the band is fueling that. THEY arn;t having fun with it or taking it seriously. and that gotta be pretty hard to deal with for someone who does take it seriously.
the band doesn;t live up to it's obligation as musicians. to do it ALL THE WAY. to make sure they pay attention to every aspect and NEVER settle for good enough. yea, it takes time and gets frustrating, but if thats gonna make you hang your head and give up, settle for good enough, then you need to find a new planet to live on. cuz here on earth, shit don't get done at all that way. you do it half assed and don;t put the detication and time and effort into it, you get half assed results.
if this band would do their job and take things seriously and maybe take advantage of THEIR awesome opportunity to record their music, MM would be much more happy to work with them.
in the army do you think your seargeant would ever accept good enough attitude? do you think an army would survive a battle if their guns were "good enough"????
if you'll say it's "good enough" in the studio, then when you get your light-weight turn out and pay check and short ass career, then you better say that's good enough for you as well.

i would be disgusted with that guitarist if i were MM. send em back to the garage untill they take things seriously. my band has a LONG way to go before being ready to record and we'd fare a thousand times better than this band had we been given the same opportunity. makes me ill to know it doesn;t take talent or hard work, it just takes alot of money and friends in high places, your band could SUCK ASS ETERNAL and you'd still get a record deal. while the best music in the world is being made by poor folk sittin in their basement and they'll never be heard cuz they ain't rich or famous. anyone like to join me in vomiting?

These guys are definately an interesting combo of personalities.....

I have never read about such a group of egotistical, dumb, arrogant, lazy, stick-fingered pussies in my life...

Thats why this is so fun to read

And the fact that the drummer seems to think that his deficiencies make the band sound cool, and when the awesome studio drummer shows up he tries to teach him how to suck....

I mean thats priceless.

Joe

Unbelievable. Just unbelievable. The best musicians in the world are jamming in night clubs and bars, and these punks are the ones that get multi-million dollar advances on major label recording contracts. Planes flying into buildings and biological warfare threats really don't bother me, beyond their initial shock value. But the degredation of the greatest form of cultural expression to this, something for which there just isn't an appropriate word, just makes me sick.

What tops this off; and makes it so damned funny is that we all recognise all of these guys from our own musical experiences. Com'n....we all know Dumb-ass and Willy Show. I just hope no one is reading this and thinking..."There! That's Lt. Bob all over!"

I hear ya, but...

They are paying him. He's THEIR employee. They fire him or he quits- he doesn't kick them out. Seeing as he took the gig to work with Willy, it would be counter productive to walk out on the gig because the musicians are eccentric...

Ever work in customer service of any kind? MM has a tough job. Not only does he have to produce the sounds and engineering for the album, he has to also dance between the egos, policies, agendas, and whims of the many players involved in this drama. Engineering is EASY compared to the art of customer service and diplomacy that MM has to have mastered to be working on gigs like this.

He is informing us with his diary, but he is also venting. We're getting the sensationalized version (which is why it is so fun to read) but things are probably fairly civil and professional in real life.

But, yeah, this is not a group of people that I'd be pleased to record in my home studio. :)

Take care,
Chris

How many for a small riot if we don't find out who the band actually is when the CD comes out?
I have actually met all of these people at one time or another in my music career. I am going to get fired for laughing all day at my day job, but I'm going back in to read some more.
How many of you are stunned at the amount of money these people are allowed to spend?

Oh man....the vision of Blister sitting in the tracking room with his headphones all taped around his ears and then across his forehead.....HAHAHAHAHA it still has tears coming to my eyes! That is too funny. :D

sorry Lt...but I had you in mind from the word go. ;)

Alot of musicians have made music off the chosen path and become icons for whole generations. Doesn't anyone remember our parents saying " I don't know how you can listen to that crap"? Is MM and Willy doing us all a disservice by editing these songs to the point where they are changing 1. the beat 2. the basslines 3. the melodies? Have they become so mainstream that they'd sell the bands soul to make a buck?

Why is it the lyrics are so 'hands-off'. Other than the copyrights is there something that places the lyrics on some cloud above the music? They probably suck too so why not change them? Where does the deception end?

They may think the music sucks but I'd bet you there is a whole generation of youth out there that would love it as is. Shouldn't the engineers and producers stick to keeping out unwanted noise, work on sound quality and leave the music to the musicians?

Sure...
But when your working with a band that demonstrates the great professionalism:rolleyes: that Bitch Slap Does, you feel the need to give them that extra push across the finish line...:D

I just had to chime in too, to say that MM has made my working a lot less productive the last few days. (I discovered the diary just the other day.)
Have anyone read "Adventures in the screen trade" by William Goldman? If you havn't I can tell you its a great book about what really goes on i hollywood from a screenplay writers point of view. (Goldman wrote Butch Cassidy and The Princess Bride among many other, and is one hell of a storyteller.) Mixerman is just now doing for the music industry what Goldman did for the movies. And just about as well, I think! Both should be required reading for anyone remotely involved or interested in either field.
-Damn, i think I'm gonna laugh my ass of sometimes. And I'm quite pleased that I'm not sitting anywhere near my boss...
