on my ole Ibanez RG270...
I`ve had this thing for about 10 years or so, and oddley enough, never really used the whammy bar much, primarily, because when I first got the guitar (brand new in a box)..I found that the whammy bar/connection (where it threads in) was sloopy as hell, and needed tightenned down..something i was aparently too lazy to do..LOL..needless to say, I just ditched the bar and called it good (had/have other guitars, and another with a working whammy bar)..

Anyway, recently I decided to tighten down the whammy bar connection, and start playing around with it a bit, and I`ve found that my bridge does`nt return to it`s correct at rest position..basically, it`ll stick at sharp, or flat depending on which way I worked the bar last..and this is ALL the time, be it light bar work, or some deeper dives etc.....
and when i say sharp or flat etc..
I mean a solid three or more off on a richter scale of 9..LOL..(green in the middle/in tune, 4 reds sharp, 4 reds flat..it`ll end up all over the place and as far as 4 dots off-sharp, or flat..which is BAD bad bad..sounds like shit)...

what usually causes this??

ten years worth of filth collecting on the bridge/swivel joints, a spring issue, strings?, or??

thanks for any ideas, as it`s driving me insane!!

Yeah definitely the age of the strings would have something to do with it. Might try replacing them first. But most cheaper locking trems are just bad at coming back to exactly where theyre sposed to be. Maybe have a reeeeally good professional set it up with the new springs and everything.

it has new strings..which are "light" strings...so I`ve been wondering if it could be related to the gauge of strings vs spring preasure on the bridge etc??

does anyone know exactly what gauge strings were originally intended to be used on a ibanez RG270?

Shit. I meant to say "springs". Properly setup it shouldnt reeeeally matter what gauge strings are on it within reason.

ohh okay...
I wonder if one can order new replacement srpings somewhere? surely they sell them somewhere...
I could probley throw them on, then reset the bridge hieght as needed etc..

or maybe I`ll just hit the hardware store and see what they have hanging around..LOL

FIXED!!!...did some internet searching and ran across this IBANEZ RULES!! tech - setup...as it turns out my "knifes edge" was looking good, but I had a fair amount of debri in the bridge/post "V"s..once
I cleaned them up, and added a drop or two of three in one oil, it seams I can work the bar to death, and the bridge returns to the normal/correct position..in the artical, it recomends chapstick..LOL..but i just used three in one as I have no chapstick on hand..LOL
