As this thread is about drums, HERE'S a short track to play after each "zinger" post, whoever by.
As for your various queries, offcenter2005, there's two problems. You say you want your drums to sound "superb" but the first problem is that everyone has a different definition of what constitutes superb. What is perfect for one genre would just not be right for another. Only you can judge what you want.
Second, those who said that most "superb" drum sounds are achieved by perfect tuning, perfect players and perfect recording in a perfect studio space are generally right. Yes, sometimes all sorts of mixing tricks can be applied--but, to my ear, these sound like mixing tricks not "superb" drums.
You've already posted a couple of ideas but nobody can comment on whether these will give you the effect you want. If you're happy with the original recordings, try your ideas and see! You'll soon know if it's the sound you want...but none of us can know that.
Anyhow, I'm going back to watching the fireworks. Do try the sound effect after each post. I find it enhances my viewing pleasure!

Actually, I do. Get a friend to help you. I would come over, but Phoenix is just a bit more than next door now. If I was still in Chandler, I would totally come over and hang out.

No problem if it's any good to you. I recorded it years ago when I needed an effect to play after jokes in the traditional
British "pantos" I used to mix every year. (Why the live drummer wasn't trusted to do them, er, live is another story probably best left untold.)
For the record, it was recorded in an imperfect studio space, by an imperfect drummer on a cheap drum kit and my miking was rushed....

This thread is like the Amalgam pieces, "Ongoing situation" and "Roller Coaster" on the 8 sided "Wipe out" album. They start off quiet, a few random sounds, sax, bit of guitar, bass, drums. They gradually assume a shape, then bit by bit get more and more heated then break into full blown madness in which the players pull, twist and cajole every sound from their instruments and the air is filled with sounds and fury and they keep this up in both cases over close to two sides of an LP then almost imperceptibly they start to wind down to a quiet conclusion and eventual resolution and only at the end do you realise you've been breathing heavilly and your body has been all tensed up and your fists clenched......

The more forum n00bs freak out, and it's getting way more frequent in here, the more it confirms my suspicion that people just want to be told what they want to hear. That or there are a lot of really unstable people out there. No one wants actual critiques or discussion; they just want their own personal beliefs confirmed by masses or they want their ego stroked. I see it in the clinic a lot too. When they don't get these basic reassurances, they go freaking bonko.
