So many mic pres......SO MANY MIC PRES!!

As pleased as I am with my SP B1's, I will wait patiently for the RNP and see how it does "against" the VTB-1. Actually, I'm really saving for some fancy pres, but might end up getting some of these lil' pres if they really do end up matching the big boys "quality". Anywayz, I can hardly wait to hear them both. It stands to reason, though, that the way technology keeps marching along, it is possible to offer good clean amplification at a reasonable cost. Hooray for us!

Randy, you are spot on. But I think we might be getting somewhere in this thread. Getting pissed off is exactly what Chessweak wants you to do. I may be feeding the fire, but I am honestly trying to help by assisting him through his "growing pains". Why? I would really like to hear what some of the contributors to this board have to say. How can they get down to business when the class bully keeps shooting spit balls at them?

As is the case with most bullies, he finds comfort in lashing out at those who display stronger skills and more intelligence. His warped perception of his own abilities makes it impossible to recognize the fact that he has been outsmarted in every possible way.

By focusing on a tiny comment, he can avoid the issue but still listen to himself "talk". I think that most teens and twenty-somethings find great power in their newly found ability to communicate with adults seemingly on their own level. These new skills take time to develop, and unfortunately, Chessfart, having nowhere else to go, has chosen this forum as his own personal "thinking school".

He doesn't realize that his "track record" is all of the pompous and ignorant comments that he has made on this very forum. In an attempt to attract attention to himself, he has learned that challenging his superiors not only gets a reaction, but stirs up enough debate for him to interject his own meaningless brand of "opinion". Much like a baby waving its arms and shouting, "NO!".

I can only hope that he will recognize his unhealthy obsession with this message board. An obsession that has only brought out his worst paranoid and insecure traits. He has shown some improvement over time, I think he is close to learning an important lesson about the real world.

And if you're REALLY good, Chessy-Wessy, maybe I'll take you out for a cheeseburger in my Land Rover. You'd like that, wouldn't you, Chessy? ;)

Touchy aren't we Dot.

Why would I go over to VS planet? I don't have a VS machine. I'm not interested in your reputation anywhere else. I'm interested in what you are doing here. Anyway, since I've managed to keep from name calling and you've gone ballistic............... another gripe.

You recomend people buy a product from a place where you don't even know the price.... you'll be a good reviewer at Mix someday.

I feel no need to post my credentials. I'm here, I post annonymously, I haven't put myself in a situation that could put myself into a conflict of interest.

My problem isn't the freebie per se, but the order in which the freebie occured. If you had gotten it upfront instead of after the favorable review...............

Journalist = no ethics according to you. Well that's a pretty big generalization.

Let's assume that's true. Whether or not you want to beleive it, you are acting as a journalist, when you bring information to the public this bbs, etc....... (Maybe you'll see the circular logic you employ)

Anyway this is my last post on this subject, I should have known better than to jump in before (really I apologize to Harvey and all), but man you've got more holes than the Titanic after it hit the iceberg.

My post has no smilies for you... Aww.........

guys you can't win the bs war. someone else will always get the last word.

Moderation of this forum is nonexistent, although it wasn't always like that.

Jett, you're crackin me up, here. That you write, My problem isn't the freebie... shows you haven't even done your homework. There is no freebie.

But, hey, bash away if it makes you feel better. I appreciate the people who make valuable contributions to this thread. I also appreciate the contributions of dicks like you because it helps keep the thread at the top of the forum.

[ lays on the mat in excruciating pain under the forceful power of Jett's unstoppable superjournalist grip ]

Hey Dot,

Let's let this go. No one is a winner here, and many do not understand the review process or the industry policy for them.

To the group,

Most manufacturers will give units to reviewers. I do not... I send every reviewer an invoice for the retail amount plus shipping. I do this for insurance purposes in case it is lost or damaged.

Not that I have to tell any of you this, but usually if a reviewer likes the product they reviewed, they can purchase them from the manufacturer at a deep discount or get it for free, and it is encouraged by the manufacturers.

Many just let it go and give them away for free, I do not, I charge the reviewers pretty much my cost of the goods. It is not based on a good, or bad review, it is only done if the reviewer wants to own one. In the case of Rip Rowen, he gave a good review of the C1, and did not want to purchase it. Every reviewer is different.

So, if we can put this aside as it is counter productive and get back to more useful issue's, that would be good. I do not expect anyone to believe me, and I am not out to change the way you think about reviews.

Harvey loves the unit, the end users love the unit, and we will not please everyone anyway, so fine. The unit is what it is. If any of you are that curious, buy it, and try it for yourself and post your opinions. If you agree with Dot, fine, if you don't fine. All that matters is there is another mic pre out there for a good price.

Thanks for the psychoanalysis, Sigmund Trew. So full of pith and moment . . . so concise . . . yet so non self-indulgent. So nonpretentious. Yet, so . . . long.

If I might venture a similar analysis in return, I would say you have an unhealthy fascination to a cheeseburger remark I made about a year ago. Interesting. Were you beaten as a child at any point with a cheeseburger? Or worse yet, by a cheeseburger? If I didn't know any better, I'd say you've flashed a lot of skills, and someday (with a little more seasoning) will make a mighty fine Troll, Trew. Good work.

cautiously opens door to mic forum.....hears screaming.....

...........geez; you guys are nuts. Now I remember why I never come here. The few times I've poked my head in, the threads were almost identical to this.
Now I know little about mics so I'm not commenting on the pros or cons of various mics or pres. But one thing I know is this.....it's not the equipment as much as what you do with it. If you're a sucky player....I don't care what you use....it'll still suck.
If, on the other hand, you have talent...you'll be able to do something worthwhile with even low-end stuff. Will it be as good as you could have done with better stuff? Of course not. But it might be better than some crappy player could do with the better stuff. I bought my mics before I discovered this place and I'm embarresed to say that I bought the two mics that are apparently the worst I could have gotten...... NT-1 and a C-3000.
I wish I'd known better but I didn't and now I can't afford anything better. So they're what I use 'cause I have no choice. But I have gotten several comments on the sound I get on my sax with them and if the people asking had known what they were, I'm sure instead of complimenting me, they would have mentioned the artifacts that ruined it for them.
I like to read Alan's, and Harvey's, and now Dot's posts because they are knowledgable....but it's not worth wading thru the crap to pick out the nuggets of info.

closes the door and quietly tip-toes away to avoid waking the children...........

Sorry to see all the goings on here too.
It would be best to let this thread die relatively peacefully, rather
than a long drawn out death scene-no matter how melodramatic.
Any remaining issues worthy of discussion could be continued via
private messages between the appropriate parties.
Otherwise, as the saying goes "I'm afraid our time is up for today".

Too late!

It is now the time in this weeks episode where we do the Music Montage as Alan, Chess and Dot do some serious thinking while frolicking half naked on the beach.

WOW! I leave you guys alone for six whole days and look what happens! Next time, I'm hiring a baysitter!

SO........
HOW DOES IT SOUND?
Let's hear from buyers out there!!!

The fact it sounds A-1 never kept us from arguing-oops meant
"discussing" it ad infinitum Patty.

I was talking to my psychoanalyst today. He said I had suppressed anger and latent hostilities which I need to work on. So I asked him how should I start and he said there was this microphone forum on the web and that I should just drop in and "go with my feelings".

Ya know, after hearing all the bickering here, I actually started thinking the things I was so pissed off about were kind of silly. In short time, I was feeling much better. Great in fact...until I found the bill from my shrink! That $%^$%^#@#!
