Creed, You Suck

ok, one more post. I read your other threads and listened...great stuff..very talented.

so this was done in a bedroom? Believeable for the most part..

but your drum sound is just *good*

esp your cymbals...they just "shimmer" - how do you record them? like, your OH placement etc. preamps...the ones on the 2480?

Good song, nice vocal arrangement.

The vocal tracks need a bit of tidying up, but I know you said it's a rough.

By the way, who are Creed?

AB

Thanks everyone for listening...and keep the thoughts coming! This one's still really rought, and I need suggestions.

Powderfinger: Didn't have to track them to many times...just enough to get them right!

Kramer: Still no metronome, I'm afraid...

WATYF: I agree about Creed's lame drums. Screw that.

Miles: I think that most of the people that like this band probably wouldn't like Creed, or would find it funny even if they did like Creed. Just my opinion. And as for the first "creed" after the a capella, personally, I think it sounds fine!

Tex: This song isn't a parody. A parody would be covering 'Sacrafice' and giving it new funny words that make fun of the original song. This song isn't made to be a parody, but an original song that makes fun of an unoriginal band. I will still pass along the idea to the band...I think it's damn brilliant!

Wes: Yeah...I compress the piss out of things, but it's just my style. Again...remember that this is a ROUGH mix...and I do agree that there is a bit too much compression on the VOX. But I also think that the drums don't cut through enough, and the guitar tone needs a lot of work, and sometimes the vocals are too loud, and I could go on forever, but again, this is a rough mix! Make sure you check this song when it's done...I'll make sure and post it.
I got the gig by recording a few other bands around here in Nashville, and then these guys asked me to record/produce them.
It was pretty much done in a bedroom. Drums are as follows (shhhh...don't tell anybody...it's a secret!)

Kick: AKG D112
Snare: SM57
Toms: SM57's
OH's: GrooveTube AM52's

That's it. As for the overheads, I wouldn't even really call them overheads, I used them more as cymbal mics. I go for total isolation in micing. The mics about 8 inches above the cymbas, 3/4 out to the edge of the cymbal, on the side of the cymbal that's farthest away from the drummer.

All of the drums went through Aphex 107 mic pres, and as always, a LOT of compression, and massive EQ. I'm never afraid to compress the piss out of anything, nor am I afraid to eq it until it's nowhere near the original tone.

Everyone...please remember...it's a rough...it's only the first mix that I've done on this song. I usually do at least 3 or 4 mixes before I get it right. I wanted to post this to get some opinions, and your opinions have defintely helped. Just wait for the new mix! Before I posted this, I was just sitting here eyeing my computer and my 2480 in a most wicked manner, wondering what to do with this mix.

I've come to a conclusion...it needs more power. So that's what I'm gonna work on.

Okay...sorry for the epic...thanks, all, for listening, and please check the new mix when I'm done. And still, don't be afraid to give more suggestions, they are ALWAYS MORE THAN WELCOME!

This is Hilarios!

Doesn't matter how you mix it......................

Its still Hilarious

:D

I had to listen twice before I figured out what didn't sound professional about the vocals. I *think* it is that the main vocals has a bit too much sibilance.

That's it. Other than that it's totally gay, I mean totally professional. :D Excellent recording work.

To kill another thread in anopther forum: How much did the recording equipment cost? :)

AAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEsome!

Fucking brilliant man. Commendable. I don't know what else to say...Thoroughly entertaining every measure! Brilliant.

its quite an interesting song.

A few moments of true glory surrounded by many moments of mediocrity and gimmickry.

The song sounded like it was going to sound really good, but the chorus is not catchy at all. I actually prefer the approach to the chorus over the actual chorus.

I think that the majority of Creed's songs are at least better than this song but some of his songs are really miles ahead.

its also funny that you think songs are made for TV. Only good songs make it to TV. There is actually a way to write good songs. I can see that you have some really good melody writing skills but they need to be developed further.

Funk on!

Good...Good...Good

I just wanted to stop by and add my half a nickel's worth of praise. I listened, I played the tune for my wife...I WANTED to play it for my daughter, but being the prude that I am, I'll just save it on my computer until she's old enough.

Very well recorded...as usual.

:D

I kinda liked Creed. oh well...;)

I think I'm missing the joke:(

I fortunately or unfortunately have never listened to Creed, but I love this song! The melodies, harmonies, lyrics--everything is superb! I like the satire stuff a lot so this was right up my alley.

You bring up the subject of what is rock and roll and it reminds me of some of the early Who stuff, which was good, but definitely not "rock and roll" either. I guess thats another whole debate for the Cave or something.

Anyway, the mix is killer. This song kills me!

BTW,

I'm sending the link to a friend who's a Creed fan....this is exactly my arguement with him!

I liked the song as well.....even if it werent a Creed diss, I'd dig it.

Everyone, thanks for checking the mix, I love hearing everbody's opinions.

I don't want to start any kind of flame....but Cyan, did you really listen to what is being said in the song? It seems to me that you have at least one misconception here....

Darth

Hey Darth...

Another great one. I think I liked Handjabs and Mornon a little better. But I still liked this one. I didn't realize this was you recording another band. Do you perform any of the parts?

"Oh God it just doesn't make sense. How anyone can listen to their pure heinousness." That was a real good one. Catchy chorus, great harmonies. Actually great harmonies throughout - although I'd probably have a few small nitpicks here and there.

Quite a few small plosives, but they're pretty small. At :09, I'm not sure about the "chord" on the harmonies. I know it was intentional, and it's sort of cool. But I think you could come up with a more "standard" harmony part that would work better (at least for me :D)

I'm focusing more on negatives - sorry, it deserves better.

Anyway - another Darth song that I love. Keep it up.

Thanks M and M and M....no I don't play any of the parts in this band. I am in a band with the bass player.

I produce this band, though, which does entail quite a bit of artistic input, and it's a lot of fun to work with these guys.

I will pass on your suggestions to the band. Thanks for taking the time to listen...

Darth

wow, a total waste of the band's time and talent. It will never get air time, no one would ever "pay" for this. Sure, it might be a fun song to play live as a filler, but otherwise why spend so much time and energy on this? It can go nowhere. Creed is a very good band, so what if they are exploiting the song style that sells alot of cd's. I'm sure this band would trade their band's income with Creed's anyday. Tell these guys to go work on some original stuff and make alot of money, they have some serious talent! Also unless your Weird Al, parady bands never make it..anywhere.
