Compressor location

Ok, i got frustrated with my sound engineer and am attempting to take what he taught me and do it on my own. a lofty adventure. one thing im wondering is where i run the compressor. Through the aux loop? or from the direct output of the mixer to the interface in my computer? a matter of fact, id like to know what the best set up would be for my hardware:

behringer 16 channel eurotrack
line 6 pod pro rack
nady spd-20
behringer mdx 2600 compressor/gate

Can i run the line 6, the effects proc, and then the compressor all through the aux loop and just do a direct line in with my instruments and mics etc. My monitors and sub are both active, so do i need to be using my line 6 as a preamp as well?

Welcome to the board Nikolai.
It sounds like he didn't teach you enough. There's alot more to it than just knowing where to put the compressor too. What are you going to do with it once you get it hooked up?
The best thing to do is to stick around here and read, read and read some more. There are some great books you can pick up at the library too.

In the mean time, to tell you how to set up your stuff, one would need to know what you want to do with it. Record, play live, what kind of music? Where are you setting it up? Sound treating the room is real important too.

ive been doing rough demo recordings with my band for about 6 years now with cakewalk and recently with sonar, but never had a compressor. needless to say, our cuts werent the highest quality, but the compression should help a lot. ive read up on the boards strategies with compressors, but i just dont know where it should be set up. should it be put before the effects proc or afterwards. like would compression relally affect the effects?

Put it on a direct out from the mixer. You can also put it between the mic pre and your soundcard.
