Thanks for the listen, Passing Tru. Yes, recorded purposely with lots of tube saturation as I wasn't going for a real acoustic sound here. Did you listen to the original post or the remix at post #59?

Tim

I listened to both. With so many replies it was hard to read it all and see if anyone had already mentioned what I said. I thought the guitar playing was top notch though. Esp. the guitar doing the melody. Sounds better then Lennon's out of pitch vocals. LOL!!! Kidding, I do like Lennon.

Appreciate it, Passing Thru. I was listening to Lennon singing it on the Beatles 1 compilation CD last night for the first time in a while... hadn't remembered how scooped the mix was, and the radical EQ on his voice.

Did Lennon sing this?

Yes, on the Abbey Road album. Vocal recorded in 8 takes, Aug, 1969 according to "The Beatles Recording Sessions - the Official Abbey Road Studio Session Notes" by M. Lewisohn.

thanks, Tim. I wasn't sure about this one, and I haven't dug out my cd it is on. I have the double disc with all the hits....1 I think it is called...The voice really reminded me of Paul, but I probably couldn't tell since it's been altered a bit.

Thanks Chattbox.

I want to thank everyone who dropped by in my thread. The feedback helped a lot - especially listening to the remixes done by Dogman, Llarion and DonF. The comparative balance issues and the different approaches helped me re-align my own sense of sonic balance in the mix.

I've done a final (yeah, sure :D ) mix of it and just replaced the uploaded file linked in the original post. I think I've got a pretty good balance now between the preamp tooby midrange emphasis I used in the tracking (to deal with the piezo tone), EQ spectrum, and part clarity.

Changes from the original mix... I substituted a multiband limiter for the chained broadband limiters I had used on the lead bluesy guitar on the right to control its lower mids, boosted its highs above 7 kHz a couple dBs and put just a touch of delay on it. I also reduced the gain of the chained limiters on the left solo gtr by just a bit to make it a bit cleaner. Lastly, I put a high pass filter at 100 Hz on the nylon chunk-chunk-chunk backing gtr to clean up its low end a bit.

Thanks again.

Phenomenal job Tim. I have to pick and choose which tunes I listen to because I'm on dial-up and it takes so long to download, but this was definitely worth the wait.

I actually did a pretty similar arrangement of this song in a Fingerstyle Method book I wrote that's in the proofing process now. So when it comes out, everyone's going to be thinking I ripped your version off! Thanks a lot!

Seriously though, very enjoyable as always.

Thanks Tim! Even if you didn't like the actual mixes, taking the time to listen to them to clear your head was probably a good exercise for you; hearing the other perspectives can alwasy be an education!

Famous beagle – thanks beagle, your opinion means a lot. Cool that you’re doing an arrangement of the tune for publication. :) Had to laugh about the plagiarism thing… the Beatles’ songs are so guitaristic in keys used and original arranging style that solo arrangements have pretty small things that differentiate them. In a sense, we're all just doing transcriptions maybe. My arrangement here grew out of the solo version done by your cohort at Hal Leonard, Larry Beekman, which I’ve played for a number of years.

Llarion – I did like the mixes! But you’re right, listening was a good head-clearing exercise.
