Buzz on my acoustic

Hey

I've been getting a bit of work carried out on my Martin acoustic. It started with an annoying buzz when playing the low G note on the E string. I put it into shop to get fixed, and after some work the problem seemed to have disappeared...

but a new one has arrived!

Now i get a buzz that's really weird. When I pluck the D string in an open sounding It sounds fine..... but if I pluck the D string with my finger on the 7th fret of the low E string a bad buzz appears. Weird I thought.

After some investigation today the buzz appears to be fret buzz due to a sympathetic harmonic stimulation of the E string... between the 7th fret and the nut!

So I'm thinking either dampning or raise the nut a smidge. I'm reluctant to raise the nut as I really like the string height where it is.

I will probably put it back into the shop, but does anyone hane any ideas?

Cheers

John

Take it back, explain the development & ask that it be corrected.
I had a similar situation after I had some serious work done & the luthier put on new, lighter string. The neck developed a slight proflie due to significantly less tension from the lighter strings. the fellow addressed the prob. apologise and hope he get my business again.

If you have no buzzes across the fretboard there is really just one quick check to make. Neck relief. Get them to look at the truss rod. If you have a high fret that is causing the sympathetic buzzing it should also be dressed flat.

If it is a nut issue it would more likely be because it is too high and buzzing on the 6th fret not too low. If it plays in tune and intonation is good again look at neck relief and high frets..

I suspect you just need to have the relief looked at but it could be any of the above

maybe you bang on the strings a little too hard. be gentle, she'll like that.;)

Relief that's was I meant when I wrote profile - at leats they have 4 letters in common!

Dump the Martin, get a Yamaha, and pocket the rest of the cash for other gear.

You won't have any quality issues with a Yamaha. :)

Thanks for the replies guys. Some useful pointers there! :)
