Hi all, I'm progressing through the planning stage of my basement studio finish. The contractor drew up some plans, and while we still have a bit of adjustment to make, it's close to being finished. But I wanted to run it by any experts here...it's WAAAAY cheaper to make adjustments now than it will be a few months from now!
We're going with a room-within-a-room plan, where the ceiling will be decoupled from the floor above by using a separate set of ceiling joists. This ceiling will rest on top of the walls of the studio. The walls will be resting on some resilient material (haven't specified exactly what yet...any suggestions?). The floor is concrete slab.
I like that the ceiling will be decoupled from the bedroom floor above, but my only concern is that it'll be rigid, and attached directly to the inner walls of the studio. Is it preferable to add some sort of "springiness" or resilience to the ceiling to improve its transmission loss? If so, how? I'm not sure that I want the expense of both a decoupled ceiling AND resilient channel hangers. Would some resilient material where the ceiling rests on the walls help?
I'm sure I'll have a billion more questions as we start to solidify our plans...
