There are multiple morals to Getuhgrip's story.
Let's say, just for the sake of discussion, since all we have is the pleased opinion of a reviewer to go on and haven't heard the 4040 personally, that the 4040 IS better and more valuable to us than a 4033.
Well, if Getuhgrip had a Christmas bonus burning a hole in his pocket and he knew he better get something useful before he whizzed it all away on pizza and rootbeer, then maybe he shot himself in the foot and would have been better off to stick the cash in the bank and wait.
On the other hand, if he had a project backing up on him for want of something as good as he could afford at $300 in January and he had to either move or exit the porcelain facility, then he probably did good to pop for the 4033 when he did, no regrets and don't look back.
WE ALMOST NEVER have the perfect item show up at the perfect price at exactly the right time. When we do, it's great, but a wise old fader shader I know once said:
If you need it, go get the best you can afford, NOW before it costs you in productivity.
If you only WANT it, WAIT. The chances are you will get more for less money when you really DO need it.
Works for computers. Has saved me bigbux.

Has Stephen released his mics yet? He has a $1000 or so mic coming out soon that is his 3 micron U87 mod, basically. Last I heard, anyway...

I feel so much more substancial!
Kinda makes you all want to treat me better, doesn't it?
Fact is, I wasn't aware that this LD was on the drawing board or in production until April. Didn't see a price until yesterday.
I think the Gods play it out like this. Toying with our mortal inadaquecies and emotions. They want us to have huge microphone lockers and drafty bank accounts that our foolishness is laid bare before men!
So, my 4033 becomes my new amp mic as I wait for a 4040 to track vocals.
I feel so much more substancial!
