I bought a crazily cheap 'Neumann' TLM103 and it's really decent!

I noticed they don’t ship to Canada - I wonder why?
We're a tiny fraction of the market and import fees are generally higher in Canada than in the US for example.
Items under $200 do not incur taxes or duties in the US, while the Canadian GST/HST tax adds 5%-14% across the board.

Keep looking. Heard on the news today that China could be looking for other markets to avoid Trumpy tariffs. It was said that we, UK could benefit but Canada might also be more attractive to them now?
Certainly everyone else in the word is looking for new friends!

Dave.

That may well be; I'm sure China will be looking to diversify their markets a bit and with luck I'll get a good cheap microphone sometime soon!

At attractive as the price was, I've got a half dozen LDC and 5 pairs of SDC, and a eight dynamic mics. I really don't need another one, even at that price.

I wish I had your willpower - I'm a sucker, and don't now even know how many mics I have. I don't want to count them, but I have big plastic bins full of them now. I bet I have over a hundred now - yet the use every week list is maybe just ten? That is scary. What I am stuck with is how to reduce the quantity of fakes I now have. I cannot sell them because despite using them, I do not feel comfy selling them. I know they are fakes but there is always the chance a buyer would sell them on as genuine and I do not want that to happen.

Care to share a couple? lol

I do have a few I might be able to 'lose' - where are you

@rob aylestone have you ever generated frequency response charts for your knock-off mic reviews? Not sure what goes into that kind of thing but might be useful to know whether the charts featured in the listings are accurate? Just a thought!

I did toy with the idea, but being very honest - some rubbish mics seemed to look pretty good visually with nice gentle curves and bumps. I had the idea to make a little jig to mount each mic in the same physical place - but that studio is pulled around all the time, so I figured the idea of a constant mic (the SM7B) then switching to the ones on test would be a sound shift most people would hear. I looked at the curves I produced and many just made no sense?

Well, they came in. These are the large diaphragm mics and cost a bit more. With customs tax etc it worked out to 30 bucks a mic. I got two. Haven’t tried em out yet but the build quality is nice.
Still, two mics for 60 bucks is still a steal.

Since the tariffs I think they jumped up to 59 each.
