Has anyone used the OwensCorning QuietZone Acoustic Wall Framing? They make a 2 piece stud with resilient channel built in. The "wood" material is Laminated Strand Lumber. Says it "eliminates the need for staggered stud construction or conventional resilient channel." Comes in 2x4 (up to 10' wall) and 2x6 (up to 14' wall). Site is http://www.owenscorning.com/around/sound/products/wallframing.asp to get the data sheet.

I called our local Lowes Building Supply and they didn't have a clue. Then called 1-800-GET-PINK. They faxed a price list to Lowes and should be calling me shortly with prices. Will post prices when I get them.

Also, ran across an "acoustic" door made by Primdor (Masonite) at the OwensCorning site. Says it comes with "commercial" seals and a bottom seal plate that drops when the door is closed. Attenuation is 10dB. Doesn't seem like much but I don't know anything about standard solid doors.

Ok, forget I ever said anything about the OwensCorning QuietZone Acoustic Wall Framing. I just got a FAX from Lowes on the cost of this stuff.

Here it is: Minimum purchase is 1 bundle (79 studs). Prices are rounded because a line goes right thru the 3rd digit of price on FAX.
2x4x8 - $1500 (about $20 each)
2x4x9 - $1700
2x4x10 - $2000
2x6x8 - $2100
2x6x9 - $2400
2x6x10 - $2800
2x6x12 - $3500
2x6x14 - $3900

I think I'll stay with the staggered stud wall

DAMN!!!
What are they made out of? Gold?!!
From the photo, it doesn't seem like they are really de-coupled. The hardware looks massive, and I'm sure there are several of them on a stud.

You'd have to be more of a "stud" than I ever was to afford those babies - How 'bout something cheap, like a surplus missile silo, or just 30 foot thick concrete walls?

I guess that throws out my idea of spun gold insulation. Just think - mass and insulation at the same time!! Let's see now, gold is somewhere around $400/ounce ............. :D

You what really gets me is who was the OwensCorning marketing guy for this stuff? It's intended for "residential" use. Who could afford to put it in their house? How would you (as a builder) convince your customer that he really needed this? This doesn't include the Acoustic Batts ($32/pkg), Acoustic Caulk ($6/tube) or Acoustic Floor Mat ($100/roll). Actually the floor mat could have a use under your drum stage. It's a 4'x35' roll.

Well, if you have more money than sense.... I suppose a builder could offer it in only a few areas, like a home theater, maybe? Outta my league at those prices though.
