388 problem

i was recording with my band today, and all of a sudden the reel just stopped i thought for sure it was the tape. so i load another reel and i notice the lights above the dbx Noise reduction are off and another light is off, the counter light still on. and it wont make a noise or play when the tape is loaded now even.

anyone know what the problem could be?
 
MAYBE a fuse. (or could it be something with the tension arm??)

I don't know, but don't lose hope... Someone here should be able to help you troubleshoot to some extent, but you'll have to wait till they check in.

In the mean time you might be able to get some hints from the guy at this link (Find his Email on the site...He's really cool)

Yeah, check the fuses with an ohm meter, and the power off, unplugged!

I hope you know how to properly test a fuse.

Otherwise, home recording could be an 'enlightening' experience!;)

It really hurts to have a sick machine, but hang in there.

I would appear that no one here knows or has the exact solution at their fingertips.

People here have told you to check the fuses and you haven't reported back as to if that was the problem.

People here have asked you to check the belt and that too, we don't know if you checked or not.

Perhaps it's best if you seek out a qualified service centre in NYC and have it looked at by a technician who has experience with that specific unit and get an estimate.

It's probably a voltage regulator transistor somewhere on a logic board that went from age and will need to be professionally troubleshooted to hunt down and fix.

As you described the problem, it seems more complex then just a belt or a fuse to me, but, I don't own of those units so, I am not an expert either.

i'm pretty sure its the fuse... i dont have an olm meter to test it.

we had alot going into it when it stopped all 8 tracks, then the lights went off. i found someone who services reel to reel decks in the area.
