Hey everybody,
This is not my listing, but these things are rare to find, so I thought I'd point it out for anyone interested who is in the New England area:

It looks like the only problem is an old/missing capstan belt, which is a REALLY easy repair on a 388. I even changed one once. Basically you put the 388 face down, take off the rear (bottom) panel, and install it from behind. There are pics of how to do it here:

If it were me, I'd try and buy a 388 capstan belt from Tascam, overnight it, then check it out by putting on the new belt and seeing if it works correctly. Worst comes to worse you lose the money on the belt and shipping and leave with no machine, but it could save a lot of potential heartache for later.
