Hello friends and enemies...I have an update.
I bit the old bullet a few months ago and took the guitar to a tech. For $900AUD it got a full service, new bone nut, new bone saddle, neck reset, fret work done like new...everything checked, corrected. It was like playing a new guitar...a 20yo new guitar if you know what I mean. Did it fix the prob, Bob? Yes and no. At the end of the day the key chords X32010 and X02210 still somewhat carry this overtone thing going on that my ears must have just become accustomed to tuning in to. I don't think there's any one answer to it. That's the trick. My ears focus on it, the guitar needed a proper setup, the issue is probably just what happens with those chords + anything and everything else mentioned, suggested or offered in this thread is on the table too.
The guitar plays better than ever now. It's still not perfect but no guitar is they say. Thanks everyone!
The end.
