2 Simple Problems (right?)

are more inputs the only advantage to upgrading my sound card? right now, im picking up some background noise that sounds faintly like a tea kettle going off, so if upgrading my sound card can get me better quality, i would be willing to do that.

Before just guessing that its your soundcard, try to track down the noise. It could be the sound of the computer itself. change cables and see if it goes away. check all your connections. M-audio makes some pretty good cards from my understanding and I wouldnt be so quick to assume it was your problem...
