    Help! - getting started

Yeah, I've got a computer, and I've used the Windows sound recorder to record short guitar clips. But, I couldn't figure out how to get it to record more than a minute. Is that its limit? What kind of software would I need to get to mix down from the Tascam? Also, will a regular soundcard...

    Help! - getting started

Thanks, man. Every time I've recorded I've used some mix of the trim and faders, so that may be my problem. There's one more issue with the Tascam, though. My cassette deck that I used to mix down to is broken. So, even if I keep using the Tascam, I'm going to have to buy new gear.

    Help! - getting started

I've had a Tascam 424 for about 10 years but haven't used it much, because I really don't know what the hell I'm doing. I'm really itching to start recording, but I'm not sure what all I need or how to go about it. I have a lot of questions/issues that maybe should be separate threads, but...

Is my new bass amp a lemon?

I just bought a new Behringer BX1200, and I noticed a buzzy kind of sound in certain situations. It sounds like I'm pushing the speaker too hard. Right now I'm using a piece-of-crap 70's Epiphone bass with humbuckers. I've been using the amp master volume on about 2 or 3 (haven't had a chance...

Questions for Guitar Teachers and Students

I'm thinking about teaching lessons, and I have a few questions for all y'all teachers. (If you're a student, what does your teacher do?) 1. How long are your lessons? (30 min, 45 min, etc) 2. How much do you charge? Is it per lesson, per month, or what? (I know prices change depending on the...

    Jazz

One of my current favorites is George Benson. He's mainly known now for his singing, but in the 60's he did a lot of killer instumentals. I have a "best of" album called "The Essence of George Benson" which is all instrumental. Good stuff. Also check out Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, & Pat...

Exchanging DiMarzios - What should I get?

Thanks for the suggestions, but since I'm using DiMarzio's 30-day exchange policy, I have to get DiMarzio's. Too bad I can't exchange DiMarzios for something else.

Exchanging DiMarzios - What should I get?

I tried a DiMarzio Norton and a FRED in my Les Paul, but after 10 minutes of playing, I realized they're not what I'm looking for. (I may go with a Seymour Duncan Custom/59 in the LP.) I put the Norton and FRED in my alder-bodied Tele copy, and although I like them a little bit better, I still...

    Exchanging my Alnico II Pros

Well, there's a wide range of sounds that I like, so I want to set up my LP Studio (the guitar this thread is about) for blues/classic rock and later set up my LP Standard for hard rock/metal. Blues tones: Shelter era Freddie King BluesBreakers era Clapton Albert King etc... Classic Rock...

    Exchanging my Alnico II Pros

Yeah, I've changed my amp e.q. to every different setting there is. I can get some ok sounds but not great. I've considered DiMarzios, but since I'm exchanging the A2s under the SD 21-day guarantee, I have to go with Duncans. I'm thinking of trying a FRED and Norton in my other LP, though.

    Exchanging my Alnico II Pros

I have another question. Several people have said I should change my caps and pots. I bought some decent caps at Radio Shack yesterday, but I don't have time to order pots before the 21-day exchange period is over. Would I be dumb to go ahead and exchange the Alnico IIs instead keeping them...

    Exchanging my Alnico II Pros

I need pickup help again. I put Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro humbuckers in my LP Studio, but I don't really like them. I wanted the guitar to sound bluesy but still be able to rock. The A2s sound ok, but they're too low output and the bass end is dull without any punch or presence. I'm going...

    Dimarzios in a Les Paul?

Which pups were they? I have a PAF Pro in a Strat and love it. It has the cool open vowel-like sound and is very clear with distortion. I don't know if a pup with that much midrange would sound good and have enough bite in a Les Paul though.

    Line 6 - Modeling Guitar

Yeah, I played one the other day. It's a cool novelty guitar, but that's about it. I wouldn't pay $1000 for it (maybe $250). The coolest thing was the sitar effect. It was one of the best fake sitar sounds I've heard.

    Dimarzios in a Les Paul?

In my continuing quest for tone (see this thread: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=247441), I e-mailed DiMarzio, and they suggested I try a Norton bridge and FRED neck in my Les Paul to get a versatile hard rock/metal sound. I read the pickup descriptions and...

No. The Pod sounds fine through the headphones.

    unwanted noise on recordings

How do I get rid of noise in my recordings? Whether I record on my Tascam 424 or on my computer through the Windows Sound Recorder (with the monitor off), I get so much noise that it sounds like I've made the recording with a boom box microphone. I'm going direct (guitar>POD>recorder), and I get...

    Pocketstudio vs. MR-8

I posted a thread about the Pocketstudio in the Tascam forum, but nothing's happening over there. Anyway, I'm thinking about getting either the Fostex MR-8 or the Tascam Pocketstudio. Which would y'all recommend?

    Another "which pedal" thread

I'll have to try that. I didn't know compressors added harmonics. I always thought they just evened out your volume.
