    API Power Supply

I'm thinking of ordering an API 512c preamp and can't figure out for the life of me whether I have to get one of those overly expensive rack power supplies or whether that's just icing on the cake for those who need it. Please enlighten me folks.

Processing audio tracks with gear I can't afford

I had an idea this morning, and I'm wondering if anyone's heard of something like this already existing: A website run by a company with a studio stocked with all the nice gear home recording enthusiasts dream about but may never be able to afford, where you can pay a small fee, say $0.50 per...

    Line6 TonePort

I know Line6 is really a love it or hate it company, with the majority of recording afficianatos on the latter side, however this looks kinda interesting. At first glance, this new Line6 TonePort thing just looked like a revamped Guitar Port, to me at least. Looking around the site though, I...

Keeping your drums from sliding to China and back

So I was about to go buy one of those drum rugs made for holding your set in place and I figured I'd see what eveyone else is using. I don't have any carpet laying around in the basement or any old rugs that the dog took a shit on and are not in use anymore.

Blisters: How do YOU deal with them?

I'm starting to get a nasty blister on the inside of my thumb, just wondering how everyone else takes care of their blister problems.

    What is this technique called?

Two examples in the mp3. I have no idea what the first one is called or how it's played. The second may just be fast harmonized tapping, maybe it's called something else. http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/82171_guitar_thing.mp3

Just saw Massive Mastering in EQ...

Congrats on making "Room with a VU". It's not everyday you see someone from the forums in a big publication.

    My first metalcore mix

My band's working on a demo and it's the first project I've spent a lot of time on. Usually I'm just working on the basics of everything, trying to soak up as much knowledge and experience as I can. Anyway, without further adeau... Henceforth - Villain In The Bloodvein Everything was tracked...

Coated Heads, Heavy Sticks, and Heavy Music

I'm a pretty hard hitting drummer and I play pretty heavy music. I've been using clear batter heads on my toms, but since they seem to lose their punch fairly quickly the way I play em, I was thinking some coated heads for the toms might be in order. Am I on the right track here? I can't say I...

Buying mics: before sale or during sale

I need to go get a pair of MK012's, another 57, some stands and some cables from Guitar Center, so I'm plotting to take $400-450 cash with me and just say "here, make me a deal", cause that usually works with them. They're going to have their Labor Day sale on Sept. 6 so I'm wondering whether I...

    MD421: Strange Behavior

I hate to do a repost because I normally yell at people who do it, but I'm not getting any responses in the Newbie forum so yeah.

    Strange MD421 Behavior

So I've tried out my MD421 on a number of different sources (everything on my drum kit except the cymbols, even voice) but I can't get it to level properly on my Marshall Half-Stack. Even with the pre-amp gain at the same level as it was for vocals and the amp cranked to, obviously, louder than...

    Rolloff settings on MD421

Looked at the little booklet that came with the mic and couldn't really figure out which setting did what. Is the one labelled 'S' the small rolloff and then the bass gets rolled-off progressively as you switch towards 'm' or is it the other way around?

    MD421 Confusion

Okay I'm running a Senn. MD421 mkII into one of the preamps on my digi002. This behavior absolutely baffles me: I tried it on one of my toms from about an inch away with the gain on the preamp turned up about 35% - Levels are fine. I put it in front of my Marshall Half-Stack, right on the grill...
