    Metallica recordings

I am a huge Metallica fan and I am interested in their recording techniques, I heard that James uses 8 mics on his guitar cabs. Does anyone know anything about Metallica's recordings?

    Connections

I have a Behringer Mx602 6-channel mixer and an MF-P01 Tascam 4-Track recorder. The four track just has a line/mic input. The mixer has Left and Right main outs, a heaphone out, and an rca output. Right now I am using the phones output and a balanced cable to plug it in. Is this connection okay?

    Mixers

I have a 6-channel mixer, if I hook up a graphic eq. to the tape loop, will it work okay? The sm-57, ecm8000's, and pro25 work awesome. Haven't used them with drums yet though.

    New phase

I ordered some awesome stuff today from 8th street. MY FIRST SM-57, 2 ECM8000's, AT PRO25 kick mic, cables and stands, and a behringer mixer. I think I have entered a new phase, much more exciting phase of recording. I returned my Radio Shack omni's and am ready to get all of this cool stuff...

    ECM8000 vs. SM-57

I am getting new mics thanks to everyone's harsh criticism of my "crappy mics", which is better ECM's or SM-57's for drums? I know the SM-57 is better for bass guitar, and guitar and vocals.

    Money to spend

I am about to pick up some cash soon and I am going to spend it all on recording gear. This is what I plan to record... Guitars-Lead, and 2 Rhythms Bass Drums-Floor tom, 2 front toms, snare, ride cymbal, crash, bass, hi-hat Vocals-Lead, Backup I have a Mf-P01 and I do not want another recorder...

    Overhead

What does an "overhead mic" refer to. I don't know the exact placement to put them in.

    Drummers

When you hear someone play drums on a CD, is that finalized sound the actual sound of their drums, or is it all processed through effects?

    3 mics, where to place

I just bought two more mics in addition to my one dynamic mic. They are omnidirectional's. I run them all at equal levels straight into my 4-Track. I am wanting to record drums, snare, bass, floor tom, 2 front toms, crash cymbal, and hi-hat. I am in a small room with concrete walls. Where...

    General Statement

Let me make sure I have this right... Recording is an art more so than a science. There are no parameters, no guidelines, whatever satisfies you is cool. You can make your setup as simple as a guitar and an old tape recorder, or (without getting into too much detail) ADats, Digital Recorders...

    Micing drums

Will one on the kick one overhead through a pre-amp create a good sound? (I really don't want to get more than two mics, and I just want a pretty good quality sound like early John Bohnnam (Led Zeppelin) stuff.

    X-Y setup

I read something about X-Y placement of mics, what does this mean?

    Opinion question

This is how I plan to record live (bass, guitar, drums)... Guitar on the left side of stage, guitar on the right, bass in center, drums in center. Put two mics, one about 6' up and the other 1' up off of the ground. Through a pre-amp into the 4-Track and record. Later I'll add vocals and lead...

    Mics

I'm kind of embarrassed to ask this. I have a dynamic Kustom mic that I got with a cable for $40. I am thinking of getting a SM-57 but I am not good enough at recording or interested in recording an album, should I buy it? Will it really make that much difference?

    VHS Recording

I haven't tried this yet but would someone please tell me if this will work... Run my mic into a processor (reverb), into my 4-Track recorder. Run RCA plugs from the out on my 4-Track to the audio in on my Magnavox Hi-Fi Stereo VCR. Put a tape in both the 4-Track recorder and in the...

    Mixing Down to Vhs

I read some things last night somewhere about mixing down to a VHS tape. I have a magnavox hifi stereo vcr, with audio in's and out's. Will this work? Do I just run the rca outs on my 4-Track to the VCR and press record, just like mixing down to a cassette deck? Do I run it through my VCR...

    Which is more important?

Which is more important? Playing live all over the place with self-promotion, or recording and sending demos out all over the place? How do professionals get big?

    Samples to record companies

How would you go about sending your demos to a record company? Does it have to be a perfect recording or will they look at standard cassettes? I'm not interested in submitting anything yet but I'm just interested.

    Real Audio samples

Does anybody have any Real Audio samples of your own recordings? If so could you post them or give me a link? Also, what would you recomend, put a mic on my amp and run sraight to the recorder, or run a line from the recording output to the recorder?

    How to get down songs

Hey, I don't really know much at all about recording. I got a Tascam MF-P01 Portastudio and I am trying to learn how to record some stuff. I play guitar and I run my ESP through a Crybaby, a Stereo chorus, into a Mesa/Boogie DC-10 amp head through a Crate cabinet. I have two mic stands and a...
