    Connections

Do I just use a Y-connector to hook up the L and R main outs to the line/mic in on my 4-Track?

    Metallica recordings

Well, James had his cabs set up in 3 different rooms, that's why he had 8 mics on them.

    Metallica recordings

I am a huge Metallica fan and I am interested in their recording techniques, I heard that James uses 8 mics on his guitar cabs. Does anyone know anything about Metallica's recordings?

    Connections

I have a Behringer Mx602 6-channel mixer and an MF-P01 Tascam 4-Track recorder. The four track just has a line/mic input. The mixer has Left and Right main outs, a heaphone out, and an rca output. Right now I am using the phones output and a balanced cable to plug it in. Is this connection okay?

    Mixers

I have a 6-channel mixer, if I hook up a graphic eq. to the tape loop, will it work okay? The sm-57, ecm8000's, and pro25 work awesome. Haven't used them with drums yet though.

    New phase

Thanks, some people buy expensive things for their cars, some buy collectables. But for me, the first time I played guitar (5yrs ago) I knew that was it. No question about it. When I recently got a 4-Track machine, I had to learn everything about it, I am still in that long, complicated...

    New phase

I ordered some awesome stuff today from 8th street. MY FIRST SM-57, 2 ECM8000's, AT PRO25 kick mic, cables and stands, and a behringer mixer. I think I have entered a new phase, much more exciting phase of recording. I returned my Radio Shack omni's and am ready to get all of this cool stuff...

    Money to spend

Thanks, that sounds good. Will all these mics and a mixer satisfy me? Also, I just saw an ad for drum mic packages, like 7 nady mics for $200 you know the kind that clip on to the drums? Are these any count?

    ECM8000 vs. SM-57

I am getting new mics thanks to everyone's harsh criticism of my "crappy mics", which is better ECM's or SM-57's for drums? I know the SM-57 is better for bass guitar, and guitar and vocals.

    Money to spend

My budget will be about $390. I want to record drums seperate then two guitars (rhythm), then the bass, then the vocals and solos. Now all I have is two cheap radio shack omni's and a cheap dynamic mic. I really want that up close tight in your face sound, I need to order soon. I won't use...

    Money to spend

I am about to pick up some cash soon and I am going to spend it all on recording gear. This is what I plan to record... Guitars-Lead, and 2 Rhythms Bass Drums-Floor tom, 2 front toms, snare, ride cymbal, crash, bass, hi-hat Vocals-Lead, Backup I have a Mf-P01 and I do not want another recorder...

    Overhead

What does an "overhead mic" refer to. I don't know the exact placement to put them in.

    Drummers

When you hear someone play drums on a CD, is that finalized sound the actual sound of their drums, or is it all processed through effects?

    3 mics, where to place

Okay, these aren't your dream mics, but it'll work for me... A Kustom $40 mic (Dynamic). (2) Radio Shack 330-3030 Omnidirectional Microphones $25 each.

    3 mics, where to place

I just bought two more mics in addition to my one dynamic mic. They are omnidirectional's. I run them all at equal levels straight into my 4-Track. I am wanting to record drums, snare, bass, floor tom, 2 front toms, crash cymbal, and hi-hat. I am in a small room with concrete walls. Where...

    Opinion question

No, there would be no crowd while recording. If we tried playing in a 30' X 12' room, with insulated walls, two windows, three doors, would this produce a good sound?

    Micing drums

No, see I want to get another mic and see if it'll make a difference.

    General Statement

Let me make sure I have this right... Recording is an art more so than a science. There are no parameters, no guidelines, whatever satisfies you is cool. You can make your setup as simple as a guitar and an old tape recorder, or (without getting into too much detail) ADats, Digital Recorders...

    Micing drums

To be honest, what I have been playing around with is a $40 mic and a custom pre-amp and my MF-P01, and it doesn't sound bad! All I think I need is another mic to spread the sound out better.

    Opinion question

The room is huge, it is a warehouse probably 25,000 square feet. Every instrument is pretty well defined. We'll have to lay off the distortion on the guitars a little for better definition. The mics are standard dynamic omnidirectional. The arrangements are fairly tight. It will take...
