of course there are ...... and I don't think it's true that we all hate metal ...... it's mopre of a running joke although I absolutely loath that scoopd mids sound ..... you lose all note definition when you do that.
But of course there's some great players and bands ........ just not my preference ....... I prefer other stuff. Just me and my taste.

I think that sound, "hair metal", and pointy guitars peaked out around 1984? Not too many under 50 even remember it, never mind care enough to debate it on the netz.

TBH ...... I don't think of such things nor do I care.

labels aren't important to me ....... also ..... truth be told ..... I spend virtually ALL my time earning a living playing music. I have a rather large mortgage to pay so I play or record incessantly .... solo work .... hired gun work .... studio work ....... put this man to work and pay me! :D

I don't give even a tiny shit about things like catagorizing music or trying to declare one form better or worse than another.
It's all music and for me, it's really all the same.
In terms of earning money I would play metal just as happy as deep jazz and just as happy as country or whatever.
From that standpoint it's all the same to me.

For listening I have my preferences but that's all it is and that's all it ever is with anyone ..... it's just personal taste ...... period.

And to go even farther ...... I rarely listen to music anyway other than to learn stuff I need for upcoming gigs.
I have a hired gun gig Sat. ...... I have 28 of this bands originals to know for Sat and I just got the music yesterday and I'm pretty busy the next few days so I'll have listening in the truck and probably around 5 or 6 hours of actually working on it to learn the stuff since I'm g every night also.
Not a real problem but I'll have to be pretty focused to get it done ..... I mostly don't have time for just listening anymore.

So what do I care about meaningless arguments over music styles?

My favorite music is whatever I'm getting paid for.

I don't have time

Hi guys.
I've tidied up the OT posts.

If you see any more in the near future, or anything that shouldn't be here, don't be afraid to report.
Thanks. :)

Sheesh, sorry dude.. but if you're happy god bless ya.

JDOD,
I'm not sure it's just the distortion.
There's no balance between L & R so all I hear after the intro is one side.
The ideas are good though!

Odd, the two guitars are panned quite far apart. From memory about 40% each way!

Not the right place for it I know but I have a notification at the top of the page that I have "Reputation Comments" I can't work out how to either read the comments or get rid of the notification.

Also, does can anyone explain what frequency and contour actually do? They make a huge difference to the sound. I just fiddle till they sound nice, would be nice to know why they do what they do so you can play them off against the amp settings.

Hi,
If you click the lit up notifications tab then click on 'new reputation comments' or whatever it says, it should take you to your new comments and clear out the notification.
Let me know if that works ok?

JDOD: Ray's right dude, there's not much seperation between the L/R guitar parts...make sure in your daw to watch the meters as the song plays, to make sure both sides are pretty close in db's....Another thing that might be throwing it off, is your drums are panned wider than your guitars....the cymbals/oh's....That's EZ Drummer ain't it??? I use Toontrack's stuff a lot too dude...try this on the mix:

Pan the guitars at least 50L/50R, & pan the oh track in EZD in to at least the same, maybe a little less...I usually pan my oh track about 40/40 in Toontrack stuff...

BTW, in AT3, when you're adjusting a knob on an amp/pedal/whatever, at the bottom, you can right click on the value & set it to exactly what you want dude...IE: If you overall master in AT3 is clipping, just click on the master volume once with your left-click, then right click the value at the bottom, enter whatever number you want the master to be, & hit enter....hope that helps...

Oh yeah, the toan ain't too bad dude, you might wanna try an eq in the rack at the end of the chain to cut/add frequencies....The closest I came to a VH tone with an ampsim was with AT3, & I used about 3 instances of the eq's stacked in the rack at the end of the chain...

Ok, what is oh? You mention it a couple of times.
AT3? Don't know what that is either. Will try a slightly wider pan on the guitars though.

Now I've mixed that 2nd guitar a bit louder (it was down 3 db for no good reason) and wider I can hear how shit my playing is in the prechorus.

Just remembered and recorded the chorus and bridge too. Amazing how this shit comes back to you. Will post a link in a mo. Just uploading.

Also, what's a VH tone?
I don't use EL Drummer or anything like that.

Nah, it doesn't for some reason - I just get to the subscribed threads screen with "There are no subscribed threads to display in this folder for this time period" written. Odd

yeah ..... I am happy and I feel blessed.

I know this doesn't compute for most players but 'making it' was never one of my primary goals even though i came pretty close a few times.

For me it was always about the doing of it ....... playing music for the sake of playing music and getting better as a player.
THAT was always my goal .... to get as good as I could on my instruments ..... and to do that you have to play ALL the time and if you're going to play all the time you have to earn a living at it or you have to spend a lotta time doing something else.
And that's why it's all I've ever done ...... because that was the only way to get to my goal.

So for me getting better and better has always been my driving force ....... and it still is ..... I'm good enough i could never learn another thing and it wouldn't affect my gigging but I'm always working on learning new things ..... I am determined that I'll get to be the very best player I can possibly be ........ then I'll be dead and it won't matter to anyone.
But a friend told me the other day he kinda envied me because there's never been any doubt in my mind what I wanted to do and I've never done anything other than that.

That's a pretty successful life by any standard.

I'd say. Wish i had that courage many years ago. I had a window back around 1999-2000 that i could have just made a break for the 100% music life, but family stuff came up out of our control and i sort of got pigeon holed into "doing the right thing"

I respect people that can just do their thing and start early enough to make it their daily.

Good Job Lt. Bob.
