Dave can help me with exporting? I want to export audio tracks to my laptop and then send them to a few people by email. I did one by going to file/export/wav...and it went to me docoments. but 2 things 1. when i played the piece on windows media player or vlc it was very soft with all vol controls on max 2. my email would not attach it. got as far as "uploading" but never actaully did it.
I assume you sent the .wav file to the laptop because the first PC is not on the internet? If so how? I would put the files on a usb stick. What dd you play the bounced files with? If you used another instance of Samplitude where did the signals come on the meters? Should be exactly the same as the originals.

Re attaching files: This can only be done if they are about 20Mb or less (and the "process" adds a Mb or so) . You could convert them to MP3 as there is a very good converter in Sam or you could use the built in "cloud" system. I have not done that yet so let me know how it goes!

BTW. There is almost no danger in having internet capability on a music computer these days. Just have a copper, not wireless connection and use Msoft SE anti-virus. Set automatic updates to "ask me first" then only plug into the network when you need to, i.e. 0.001% of the time!

The exported files are way too big to send in an email. Some email services only allow up to a 10 meg file, which is less than two minutes of audio at 24/44.1.

You will need to use a file exchanging service. like yousendit.com.

The audio should be really quiet compared to a commercial release because it isn't done yet. raw mixes and raw files are supposed to be that quiet. There is a lot of processing done to a finished mix to get the volume up before it is released commercially.

Dave the resolution turned out to be simple. I exported using mp3 which did upload for attachment and (to my amazement) the recipient can play that file using Windows Media player..and the volume is ok. Maybe this is useful for your son
You asked about laptop and first pc. i only use 1 computer- my laptop.
Be well!

Yes MP3 works but you are drastically reducing the sound quality. Fine for a "demo" perhaps but if you wanted someone to really critique your work, far too lossy.

One way to send large files, at least in mainland Britain is to simply post a usb stick back and forth! I guess most home studio jockies have a "day job" and can only devote weekends to serious music work. Post it Monday, get it Wednesday, get familiar thru Thur/Fri and then crack on Sat and Sun!

You can get a heck of a lot of 24bit songs on a 4G stick and they are very cheap so no great loss if it goes missing.

yousendit.com is nearly instant and doesn't cost anything. there is no point sending anything in the mail anymore. Far too slow.

Hi Jay,
We tried an upload system a couple of years ago, don't recall if it was yousendit but it was FAR from instant! Had to leave the PC on all night but then my upload speed was only ~340kbps it is now twice that so I might have another dabble although since The Musician is no longer here I have nothing to shift!

Dave.

Of course, I use my website server to transfer files on.
