I agree with Miro on the programming, there's a lot of stuff out there that'll help you get decent sounding midi drum tracks....

Hang in there Greg, you'll get it man, I've been at this shit for 4 years now, & while I do ok a programming, I'm still lost at what rudiments are, I just program to make it sound like I hear in my head.....

The Superior kits are much better than the EZ Drummer kits IMO, actually, no comparison......Abbey Road Drums sound good to me too....

Nay SDX kits are not EZX.

Sampled in much greater depth, more microphones, and better quality audio. Not processed as much either.

Aren't they the same kits?

I don't think so, but I am not a big EZD fan, nor a user of Superior. Just going from what I have heard around here.

AD is my favorite to program drums with, yet I still use SS Trigger to replace the drums when used in a mix that has only programmed drums. The cymbals sound much better to me with AD, but in the end, nothing sounds as good as the real thing. SS Trigger Plat Deluxe samples sound more realistic to me. Now we are in to $600 worth of drum software between all of them that I own.

Overstated, but worth repeating; If the real thing is not there, or a 'good' real drummer is not there, with a great sounding kit, with a great use of mics, and a decent room to record it in, sigh........Then a drum program is a best second best. Just a workaround, or tool to move forward.

I use drum programming to save time mostly. When I collaborate with another online musician, I create a drum track as I would play it live. Then, when they approve, I record the actual track. I would waste time learning the tune, and setting up to record, then playing it, only to find they wanted something else.

My time is limited, and for a geek drummer like me, it only takes 20 minutes to program a 4/4 basic drum track from scratch. Obviously more for metal. Hours upon hours for a challenging progressive freak metal tune. But in the end, I only have to use the studio, and my time recording, for the actual tracks recorded.

I have bands recording in my studio frequently, so my kit is not usually set up, and mic'd. Drum programs save me hours of time setting up, and make it possible to collaborate as well.

Check that you have the correct .dll file in the appropriate spot. I don't know Sonar, but that has been an issue with EZD installer for me on Cubase as well.

I hope I can get this to work. I bought a drum set so I could possibly get a drummer over to jam and record. It is futile. Real drummers are wacko's that can't be relied upon. I tried learning myself, but it is very difficult. The physicality of it kills my wrists.

If I can get this EZ Drummer to work. I am selling my kit.

Do you have wrist problems anyway? Drumming isn't so physical that it should cause pain. If you don't have a pre-existing condition and drumming causes you pain, you're doing it wrong. It also takes time to build up your stamina. Sometimes, my bandmates and I switch instruments at practices just to fuck around. The one other guy that can play the drums can barely make it through one song without slowing to a crawl from fatigue. He's just not used to it, whereas I can play hard and fast for hours on end. You just gotta build up to it. Drumming is way more physical than playing guitar or bass, but it shouldn't cause you pain.

I broke my left wrist (my fretting hand) specifically my scaphoid, in a mosh pit years ago. It has been giving me more problems as I get older. I can play guitar for several hours, but I pay for it the next few days. So I keep playing down to less than an hour at a time. Bass guitar kills me too, but not as bad. I can play drums for a little while, but actual practice, the repetitive motion kills, para diddles are the worse. The time it takes to get good I don't have.

I think I've got it. It will load the superior drummer into a audio track and play. When I try midi , it's not working. but neither is any thing else. I've got some setting screwed up. I'll figure it out.

Thanks.

And that's one ugly dude.

Enable MIDI output when you create the synth in Sonar. It's one of the options when you open the synth for the first time.

De De Duh.....

Yeah, I didn't have my midi out on.....

But I seem to have it working.

Dragging and dropping clips into the step sequencer, clipping and un-linking okay, another 1,000 hours and I should have it down.
