Ive heard that the digi 003 is pretty much the same thing as the digi 002. Anybody know because I Was thinking of picking a digi 003 up but if the 002 will work I might as well save the money...also what do you think of the focusright pre's that come with the digi 003 and if you like them what is a good compressor that sounds good with that unit for hip hop recording and tracking?

there are a few things that are different between the 002 and 003.

get the 003 if you can. They pretty much cost the same as the 002 used to be when it was new. And the reason you should go with the 003 instead is that I expect Digi to eventually phase out the 002 and the 003 will be the only upper end LE unit that will be allowed software updates. Could be 7 years down the road, but it'll happen.

And as far as I'm aware, I have not seen anything saying they are using Focusrites on the 003

To get more than 18 outputs from Pro Tools you need Pro Tools HD.

In future I'd recommend posting a new thread, rather than writing a specific question in someone else's thread, especially if it is 3 years old! :)

With your mackie d8b u can only use 8 channels with protools because of software 5.1 allows the d8b to emulate a mackie hui and the hui only has 8 channels. I loved working in the studio when we had the d8b and I also wished that I could use more than 8 channels maybe one day.
