    Have a bunch of sm58's do I need a sm57?

I have a bunch of sm58's that I have been using for snare drum and guitar cabs. I also happen to have an Audix i5 which I sometimes use on snare. Is it worth going out and buying an sm57 with all those 58's laying around?

    Help with Blown Tweeter

I have a set of Tonnoy Proto-J reference monitors and I think the tweeter on one is blown (not sure if that's the right word). When I play something loud I hear a crackling noise from the Left speaker. And if I pan to the right I don't hear the crackling. It is occasional and not too prominent...

    FS: Naiant Mics

Selling the following Naiant mics, $125 takes all: MSH-1 - matched pair MSH-1K - Quantity of 3 That's a total of 5 microphones for $125. These mics have seen light use over the past six months. Due to my own "gear lust" I have way more microphones than I would ever use. So I'm starting to off...

2 Delta1010LT cards in same PC question

I have been using the two cards together for a while now without problems. The cards are connected via S/PDIF cable Card1->Card2 (sends timing data only) this keeps the tracks recorded simultaneously across both cards in sync when I record to Sonar. Up until now I've been using Sonar's input...

    A really really stupid question...

Can I connect two XLR cables end to end to make one long XLR cable? I have 2 15' XLR cables, a mic, and a guitar amp that's 25' away from my pre. Is there acertain distance where the source is just too far away and sound quality goes down?

Confused about what cables I need

I have an SM Pro Audio PR8E 8 channel mic preamp (balanced 1/4" TRS outs) which I need to plug into an M-Audio Delta 1010LT with RCA female ins. Do I have to use a "balanced" TRS 1/4" to RCA cable? Should I use a balanced cable?

    Shockmount Questions

    1. I have a pair of SDC's I plan on using for drum overheads. They came with shockmounts that could be used in the x-y fashion, they get mounted on a cross-bar. I could alternatively mount them on separate booms without shockmounts in a spaced pair configuration. This is for rock drumming, which...

    Nady PRA-8 Mic Preamp

I need something to be able to use as a front end for my Delta 1010lt. I'm looking to run mics for drums and guitar cabs through this Nady PRA-8 Mic Preamp. Does anybody know if this thing will give me a hot enough signal without a ton of noise? It has phantom power which I'd probably need for...

    Quality of Overheads on Drums

Am I right in saying modern drums recorded these days have a very tight close miced sound. With this in mind, are the overhead mics' job to just pickup the highs of the cymbols, The crashes, the pings, the tings? So do you really need nice overheads to get a good overall drum sound?

I have Sonar, Delta 1010lt, and AudioBuddy Preamp. Currently this only allows me to record up to 4 mics simultaineously to seperate tracks. I...
