I have a Boss Br-8. What is the advangae of using the compressor settings when it doesn't compress anything? Is it just me or something? Can I adjust this? Can I just get a raw sound to come through the track?

Ok I got everthing figured out other than the vocal recording. It is recording really low compared to the music. Is there a pre amp in this recorder? I am turning the input up all the way and still no success. I have a dynamic mic. Should I use a pre amp for this?
