Ok I got everthing figured out other than the vocal recording. It is recording really low compared to the music. Is there a pre amp in this recorder? I am turning the input up all the way and still no success. I have a dynamic mic. Should I use a pre amp for this?

Don't know what your budget is, but, invest in a mixing board / pre-amp. Doesn't have too be anything expensive.

Yup - there are preamps in the Vf....
If you have the preamp cranked all the way and you are not
getting enough signal, then something is not adjusted write from the mic side of things, or something is broken - usually you CANT crank those preamps up all the way without having the signal distort!

Through what cables/adapters are you plugging it into the VF?
XLRto1/4 adapters can sometimes cause loss of a few db's, but nothing generally to be worried about....check the cables, check the mic....there's plenty enough juice in the pre-amps for close range vocals...

But presumably plugging a mic into the 1/4" high-Z inputs would limit the gain available? (If I'm being an idiot tell me nicely)
