H2H's advice on getting vocals more forward in the mix

One more thing Middleman... when you say boost the whole range between 8-16k with a peak around 10k at around 8db. What do you mean exactly. I run parametric eq that is in the software so does this mean I would use the 3 band eq's and boost them all between that range? A little confused... DVS

H2H's advice on getting vocals more forward in the mix

H2H...I have her standing within 2-3 inches tomic, I just think she does not have a full sounding voice. Like tubedude said a good full voice is the best start. I will check to see if I can get the voice fuller but I am going to experiment on some lower freq's say around 4-6 k and see if this...

H2H's advice on getting vocals more forward in the mix

I got some advice from H2H on duplicating the vocal track, compressing it heavily around 12 db adding eq between 8-16k, boosting at about 7db to start then de-essing to take away any harshness. I am not achieving what I am supposed to with this good advice. The sound is still kind of harsh when...

Getting that full rich vocal sound

Question H2H ... If after compressing the heck out of the second track. should I bring it back up through the make up gain or shouldn't I ? You also said... I believe it was you, was that once you are done de essing the track... instead of boosting 7 -10 db in eq it will seem more like 2db. If...

Getting that full rich vocal sound

Thanks Shailat once again.. well put and easy to understand. I have not read your post yet but tonight after work I will. I will let you know how I made out. Can you use H2H idea as well as the pre delay info etc.. info you gave on the same vocals or would it be too much? Not sure DVS

Getting that full rich vocal sound

Have not been able to view sonusmans reverb info. Very knowledgeable guy. I know guys.. I'm feeding the ego, but heck the truth is the truth. Anyways Shailat thanks for the reply... As far as my reverb settings.. The reverb is the Waves Reverb direct x plugin. I have been choosing Plate...

Getting that full rich vocal sound

H2H, thanks for the reply. So I would still add the compression to the original vocal track the way you would normally. If I understand you correctly could still add reverb or delays to the vocals after using this effects technique. Another question.. Lets say you have more than one track of...

Getting that full rich vocal sound

So what would be the best way to eliminate the phase cancellation? Pan the following tracks equally? I will be definitely trying what H2H mentioned earlier. By the way my Pre amp is the new Studio Projects VTB-1 with the Delta 44 MidiMman soundcard. DVS

Getting that full rich vocal sound

But as you said earlier H2H just de ess the second heavily compressed track, just away to take away the nasties..?. What do you think about stacking the vocals and panning left and right at lets say 25 to 50%. When I recorded in mono on the first track and then duplicated it twice with the...

Getting that full rich vocal sound

Hey H2H, thanks for the advice. Although I am not overly familiar with the Eq side of things yet. When you say.." find a nice high freq. and boost it 7-8 db"... sorry you lost me there. Can you explain a little further in newbie terms. I do not know how to find that nice freq or what to look...

    question about stacking vocals

Stacking Vocals Hey Foo. If i record my lead vocals in mono I can go in on the next vocal lines and pan them left on the second track of vocals and then right on the third and so on ... Computer duplication or the real thing. Wat percentage of panning have you had the most success with. What is...
