King of Bling
...on "another" BBS. I recorded this Sunday, and I got some great help from the guys at www.recordingproject.com , (you know who you are), and I kinda' polished it up, and I thought I'd post it here, since I haven't posted anything here in a few weeks.

If you've heard it, skip it. Not much is new, lol. Much thanks to "HevyD" for the solo.

If you haven't, hack it up. My recording gear is actually regressing due to circumstances which shall remain mysterious for purposes of this post, lol. This was done with an SM58 through a soundblaster sound card, lol....A total "CoolEditPro" production...oh, and it's country to the bone.

"Couldn't Care Less"

(yeah, that's autotune on there...and I totally cop to the fact that I just didn't have the time to do it right, but I do plan on re-singing this over the weekend, so there's hope for me yet!!!).

Thanks a ton for any comments.
Chris

I really like this Chris. And not too much over 4 minutes ;) :D

I've missed hearing your stuff man.

Sounds great throught what I'm listening on (computer speakers).

Into the keeper folder. I'm glad I can start adding to my CH collection again :D.

Sounds terrific Chris. You know, I think I'd actually pull the acoustic guitars in a little. They feel just a little bit lonely I think. Maybe in about 15%?

When I read your posts I imagain a caffeine driven maniac. LOL...well maybe not that extreme, but you seem to be able to relax very well when you record your singing. It comes across in the recordings.

I really like when things come down around 2:45. The instruments give way to the softening of the vocal very nicely.

Nice guitar solo HevyD. The runs land on nice notes.

Those last cymbal crescendos would be so right if they just sustained a little longer. But alas...that is our handicap, no?

Good song Chris.

Nice chord progression, sounds familar yet enough little changes in there to be completely your own. Excellent job.

Nice uplifting lyrics :D

Hey Man

Cool kind of cross-over tune here.
A little bit wordy for my tastes but, your a lawyer:D
Dig that guitar solo near the end, who WAS that masked man:D :D :D

Thanks, guys...In addition to HevyD being cool enough to volunteer the lead, I've got some other idio...I mean, "cool volunteer" who has been willing to waste his tim...I mean "help me" by adding a real drum track. Hope to get that this weekend. Funny, I mixed this down for the drummer without my drums, and it actually sounds better, lol.

anyway...just stopping in to say thanks, and happy turkey-day.

chrisharris,
Ive listened 3 or 4 times and it sounds pretty damn good. I was thinking about posting one of mine but your mix just sounds so full and lush compared to mine that I feel kinda sheepish now. Tell us more of this "polishing" that you speak of. Nice voice. Good back-up vocals. I like the "not your run of the mill" chord changes also. Tasteful but not overblown guit solo Mr.HevyD sir. OK Im gonna download more ch...where do I begin¿
un saludo,
el jordo

Hey, that was nice of you. Thanks, jordokid. The best mix on my page is a rocker called "No." (mbuster did 99.9% of the mix, I just screamed it). My favorite (songwise) is "Old Yeller," the recording is pretty bad, though...but it'll definitely make you post your mix...which you should, anyway...by the way. And my Sentimental favorite is "Be Careful.." My daughter's singing it, and MC Gitarz is playing the mando.

Thanks again...post something now. :D
Chris

very solid song. Sounds great. Dan did a really nice job with the guitar. I would like to hear the bass a little more. you are a very good song wrtiter.....I still like it ain't easy being me......
cool man, thanks for sharing it.
Jason

nice big mix.
Cool song and lyrics...
And I wonder if that is you again doing the wood shredding? :)
Like the eagles type changes
Impressive song... nice stuff. nice ending

Sweet!!! I love the chord change in the chorus on "if the truth be known..."

this has that stuff in it that makes it cool... HeavyD is doing some really nice fills and callbacks. Guitar tone is nice in solo. 'got nice touch of country flavor thu it. yep, nice tune. Snare gets a tad strong in a couple of places but stays pretty smooth throughout. Very good project.

clarification

I can only take credit for the solo that starts appr. 3:07 to the break. Unfortunately..........:(

Hey, that was nice of you. Thanks, jordokid.
You are quite welcome sir!!! ¡no hay de que! See, despite what most probably think I CAN be a "nice guy" if I make a genuine effort. I also forgot to mention that I seriously dug some BD accents you had in there. I am a drummer and this wouldnt have occurred to me...fits like a glove!(White Mule¿)
OK I am remixing my Johnny Cash tribute for about the fourth time and should have it up shortly plus an extra flamenco "boner" track dedicated to all you fine ladies and gentleboys here at HR.com.

¡¡¡LARGA VIDA AL TIO COJONUDO QUE ES EL SEÑOR DON chrisharris!!!

UPDATE - REAL DRUMS BY VOLTHAUSE

Yeah, it must be a country music thing; Jamal "Bucket" is a drummer too, and he mentioned the same thing. Thanks again.

So this is truly becoming a community effort. In addition to HevyD's so, standup guy and mixing guru "Volthause" was cool enough to track some live drums for this. This is NOT his style of music, so I was even more impressed with the job he did. So I resang the lead vocal to ditch the need for autotune on it. (the bg vocals are still tuned like a freaking synth, lol). New mix is uploading now. www.nowhereradio.com/honestmango/singles

Further, a very talented fiddle player is working on some stuff as I type this...IT'S LIKE CHRISTMAS FOR CHRIS!!!!

JasonBird - much appreciate the kind words on the song. Oh, and I was having a problem with the bass and the kick, but I think the new drums may have fixed it so that I can turn the bass up a little...I haven't yet, but I will. Thanks.

JMarcomb - I kind of wear my musical influences on my sleeve, lol...I LOVE THE EAGLES. :D - I didn't do the solo on here...that's all HevyD. I did the "Roy Clark-like" git fills, lol. I suck. Thanks.

quincy - thanks man...That chord change was the result of an accident during writing that I liked and kept :D - I never PLAN anything good.

Toki - Good to see you, man. Thanks for the listen. It's starting to come around. I think now it's going from the drums being the weak link to the bass being the part that's pissing me off the most...in my book, that's an improvement. :D

Sluice - I forgot to mention it, but thanks for the input on the git level...I shaved them a bit - they may need some more taken off..but I wanna' see how the fiddle fits in first. Thanks.

Thanks again, guys...stay tuned, btw...Regardless of the song, the actual recording is coming around thanks to the volunteer work I begged for, lol. :D

Great song!

Very pleasant arrangement and performance by everyone on this one.

I guess I heard the version with the Auto-Tune on it but it wasn't all that distracting and kind of gave it a modern edge.

I liked it a lot.

Definitely a keeper in my books!

Cheers! :)

Oh, it's slathered all over the backups, lol. I'll get around to it eventually :D

thanks for the listen and the post...good to see you out here .

Great song, arrangement and performance! I'm new around here, but if this is the calibre of songs in the "clinic"- I'm very impressed! I only wish my modest junk sounded HALF as good as this.

Drums, especially the rack tom, backing vox and rhythm guitars rule here. Bass cut thru nicely, too. Nice lead vox, but a little thin-sounding. HevyD, nice melodic solo. I would have preferred a Hevy-er tone. I know it's a country ballad, but raunch works. This is truly nit-picking on my part. Excellent song and mix.
