"MBuster" Is A TOTAL wuss...

Thanks for the input everbody. This was a lot of fun to do, even though someone(Chris) bitches like a little boy with a skinned knee and a roll of quarters up his ass. That being said, I actually feel pretty good about this mix, even though fully three minutes of the original song will never see the light of day, because someone (Chris) didn't deem my lovingly crafted and nurtured verses worthy of his "golden throat"( as he refers to it at least twice in every message he sends me). I say, if his voice is so golden, why does he lean on the AT crutch all the time? When I mentioned this to him, he threatened physical violence to my mother. So I let it go.
All in all, this song would have been a total loss if someone (Chris) hadn't put so much time and effort into helping me out.
Thanks Biz-natch.

Even though I haven’t been here in a while I decided to listen to this song. :)

Very awesome! I love this tune!

The only thing that stuck out that you could maybe improve on is the sound of the distortion on the rhythm guits. What do I know?

Chris, very impressive job on the vocals. I really like the energy in this tune from both of you’ns!
Very well done guys you are an inspiration to all!

What do you have in mind Scott? What is jumping out at you? Is it an EQ thing?

Whiner.

Not so easy when they're picking on YOU, is it? lmao. Nice post, btw.

oh, and I couldn't help myself...there's another mix I'll put up on my A/B page in a bit that has about 90% of the bg vox and FX stripped off... http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1698&alid=601 - and here's a pic of the EQ curve comparison... say whatever you want about the band - I think that mix kicks total ass.

I love the precision use of Auto-tune!(seriously,I like auto-tune as an effect. It's as cool or cooler than a talk box)

You already know what I think about this one.It Rocks man!

Hey Chris. Big surprise to hear you sing like that, very cool! You pulled it off very well. Nice collab guys!

It seem a bit too "direct" to me. Meaning it needed a different model or something. I am assuming you recorded it direct? If not, I don't know what I am saying.. :)

I could nitpick but I wont. This song rocks. Very clean recording. Sounded good on my monitors. Great tune. Vocals sounded great as well as the rest of the song. Very good collab guys.

Well, I'm kind of torn on this one.

On one hand, it's very very VERY well done. I mean, it's a very high quality product and you guys did a great job. Mix-wise, I don't have much to offer, other than that there might be a hair too much kick for my taste.

On the other hand... I dunno, I'm a huge fan of your stuff, Chris. I've probably listened to your tunes more than anyone else's on this list (your cover of Travelin' Soldier makes me cry like a girly man every freaking time I hear it).

So yeah, I'm a little more critical maybe because I have high expectations for your stuff. And while my first reaction to this tune was "wow, interesting to hear Chris doing some "modern rock" singing." After the first time I didn't really have any urge to hear it again. Not because it's not good - as I said, it's an excellent *product*. But maybe that's the problem. It sounds a little too much like a product. The great lyrics (and they are great, by the way) have been sandwiched into this kinda generic corporate rock-type song structure and it comes off as much less heartfelt and honest than most of your other stuff.

I mean, you're one talented motherfucker, and you could probably do the whole "top 40, sponsored by Pepsi, market-tested tattoos" thing BETTER than most, if you wanted to. I'd just hate to see it.:)

And I'm not whining about "selling out" or any of that nonsense. I'm just speaking as a fan of your stuff. And as a fan, this one doesn't quite do it for me.

Again, if some new guy had posted this, I'd be writing something different, but I know your stuff, and I figured since the other comments were mostly approving, it might be good for you to hear a contrasting opinion. And since I AM your fucking target audience, you'd better listen.:D

And hey, if you were just stretching out and trying new stuff, good for you. More power to ya. I'm just throwing my gut reaction out there. Take it or leave it.

Cheers,
Chris

chris,

This is the first song I have heard from you so, I don't have the same basis for comparison that Groucho has of your stuff.

All I can say is wow!

This tune seems to have all the makings of a top 40 pop/rock radio hit.

The mix seemed flawless to my ears.

The song was loaded with hooks with all the various vocal styles and effects.

The only thing missing was the squashed compression that all good modern songs seem to be the victim of these days.

This song actually breathed dynamically and that is the only thing about it that is out of fashion in it.

If you are trying to make it big, this track should do it for you.

Cheers! and thanks for sharing! :)

Just as a PS: - I hope I made it clear that my comments were just from the standpoint of my personal preference. As just a guy assessing the quality of a mix/performance/tune, I'd give this a big thumbs-up. And I agree it would definitely fit right into top 40 land.

Just *personally*, I don't have much interest in top 40 music and I much prefer Chris's less "radio friendly" stuff. Don't mean to make any more of it than that. Just thought he might want some input from someone who's already tuned into the stuff he's been doing.

No slurs intended whatsoever.

What a DICK!!

Lmao - Chris; you totally flatter me, man. I'm not worthy. Actually, your post means a ton to me, and I got a big old grin out of reading it. Trust me, I don't fancy myself as some kind of a pop-rock star, and even if I WAS delusional, I could never write guitar hooks like this. I've had this *idea* for a song subject for a long time, but I needed something aggressive. And Mark (mbuster) had this tune for a long time too. Seemed like a good pairing and I finally got some time to do it. Anyway, I liked your comments a lot, and don't worry about mbuster, lol... he's pretty grounded.

Oh, and mbuster, you know damned good and well that the tune you envisioned and recorded originally was about as structured as a plate of spaghetti. :D :D - If there's blame to go around for staying inside the box, that'd be my blame. :D - But seriously, can you think of a cooler way to be insulted? I can't. LMAO - Look at what he said... "YOUR TUNE JUST HAS TOO MUCH COMMERCIAL APPEAL." hehehehee...get over it; pussy. :D

Kramer - You're a champ. Thanks for the help.

myx62 - this was a ton of fun to do - Your post is helping me leave the tune the hell alone, lol. Thanks.

scottboyer - good to see you. I know for a fact you were talking about that crappy distortion in the outro, lol...ALL ME, BABY!!!

Ghost Of FM - I appreciate the time a ton...and, lmao...like I do with all my mixes now, I did about 12 different mixes with different EQ'ing and compression ratios so that I can kinda' listen in the car over a period of time and settle in on one or 2. There's one mix that's so compressed I have to LEAP for the volume knob whenever it rears its ugly head in the rotation, lol. That'll probably be the one I keep. :D :D - Oh, and I appreciate the vote of confidence a ton, but about the only way I'm ever gonna' attain any level of fame is if I go nuts some day and walk into a McDonalds with an uzi. I think I prefer being a nobody :D

joro2 - Like I'd really listen to somebody with five freaking posts. :D

-Sorry to post again; I'm not gonna' lie, this thread has been a blast for me...well, and mbuster too - he'll just never admit it publicly like he does in his love letters to me.

Mark & Chris,

Been swamped with gigs and stuff. Glad I was able to drop in tonight as this is the first song I've had time to post on in a while. It'll be hit or miss for me until the slow gig season, Jan thru March when I expect to be back in full force.

Excellent song superbly produced.

Dynamics are brilliant from both the board and more importantly, your souls. Heartfelt crescendos, diminuendos and subitos accompany this great lyric.

Gentlemen, this is one of those great lyrical gems that pleasantly come to the surface all to rarely that both male & females can relate to on many levels due to personal life experiences, is very thought provoking, and draws out a wealth of emotions.

Mp3 time :39 thru :59, vocals could come up a tad. 7 listens now vaccilating between cans & monitors and that's the only place I had to work @ diggin out the lyrics.

Nothing 'ho-hum' or 'same-o same-o' here to me, and I'm pretty picky. There's plenty of harmonic deception to keep me happy rendering a fresh, current, original & exceptional product.

Some songs out there suck but the musicianship pulls them though 'that small window', other songs are well written but fail due to lack of technique and feeling.....'NO' has both sterling presentation & composition. Kudos to you both!

5 stars from flat-9.

Hooks all over this and very well produced! Love the kick and blend of guitars. Vocals nice and up front with plenty going on all around. A very open sound. Can't find anything wrong though I'm not an expert here. Print it!

I hate jumping on threads late, everything is already said...so I'll just throw out a generic thumbs up, you guys rock, nice lyrics, etc.

P.S.
This tune is all the evidence we need to prove that Chris Harris is a phookin Rock n Roll singer!
