Window insert - acrylic or laminate? Or something else?

Looking into DIY window inserts to get rid of some road noise. There will be an air gap between the actual windows and the inserts. Will put the insert inside of a frame, surrounded by tubing, or weatherstrip, or something, not sure yet. I am still in the planing stage.

What is better to use - acrylic or laminate? Or something else?

Thanks.

glass. 6mm at least, ideally get a double glazed panel just smaller than the existing glass, and attach with velcro. Plastics just don't have the mass to work very well, unless very thick.
Also worth remembering that if the window frames are PVC, they're hollow for thermic value and the frames often leak more than the actual glass in them!

Laminated glass is fine - I have done windows from room to room in my studios with both plain float glass and laminated and didn;t notice any difference - It might be worth checking with a local double glazing firm - the last time I got wrongly measured, scrap double glazed panels for silly money. If they have one just a bit smaller than your window opening, you could knock up a frame and a fixing?
