Why Line6 Sucks!!!

Toker41

Better Than You
I will NEVER buy another Line6 product again. NEVER. I paid $500 for a Bass Pod Pro just 2 years ago, but when I went to LINE6 for support on it last week they told me that they "do not offer support on it because it is no longer in production". They also suggested I buy the new Podxt Pro for $600 instead. Now why would I do that when I know they will not offer support for their product in just a couple of years. This is a company that only cares about the customer that is giving them money today, and nothing for the customer once they have your money. Mesa Boogie doesn't treat their customers this way! Hell, even Behringer doesn't treat customers this way! I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy another Line6 product, and will try damn hard to talk anyone that is thinking about it out of it

Maybe I getting cynical or old or both, but noting like this shocks me in the least. I have a long list of "never again" companies and a shorter version for retailers/manufacturers that I'm stuck with despite support issues. Plus, a "watch list" of companies like Apple computer that seem to jump on and off the short list!

An even better reason for not buying Line 6 is that they suck tone wise!
Amp modeling is a silly concept!I used to build model cars as a kid but,
they would'nt crank up and run.I have never heard an amp model that sound as good as what it claimed to be modeling.
I have heard some good recordings using line 6 bass pod and guitar pod,but none matched the tone of the real thing.Neither do their amps.
I play thru a vintage Fender twin, and to me,the only amp that can model
that sound would be another vintage twin.
I am not big on gimicktry, and line 6 products seem to be loaded with it.
At an open jam the other nite I played thru a Bogner amp.Not many options,
tone and volume.I used my tube screamer for some overdrive and got a very
workable sound. My point being:tried and true would be the best way to spend 600.00.A marshall jcm 800 1-12 combo will always sound as good as
the cat that is playing thru it,where as a line 6 ALWAYS causes discomfiture
to the listener.

Well if you see Line 6 for what they are (more of a software company than amp specialist) you wouldn't think twice about it. Most computers are out of date and unsupported within a year or 2. I am in no way sticking up for them but that just seems how it has to happen with technology these days.

Well it was a Bogner LOL.

Not true about computers. Win98, although no longer offering updates, is still supported by the Microsoft support team. Pretty low of Line6 to sell a unit for $500 one day, and the very next day offer no support because the new line is out. They will not even discuss the unit with me, they just say "unforturnitly we can not give support for that item...". To make software that is not backwards compatible from the Bass Podxt to the Bass pod is just as the above stated "short sighted". Then they gave me the same line you just did "Line6 amps are not amps, so we do not support them like a company like Mesa would". What BS! I did not buy a computer, I bought a preamp! No where on the box does it say "this is not an amp". If they are going to cut off support the very day it goes out of production, the very least they could do is off a "trade up" program. But no, they just suggest you go spend another $600 on the newer unit.
A company that does not stand behind it's customers, does not deserve to have customers. Might be the very reason that sales are down. Not a good way to get repeat business.

Exactly. Where you gonna find a bogner for $500???????

Here's my take on Line-6...

After 16 months of use this Bass POD Pro failed... Line-6 wanted ~$300 to fix it... well I didn't send it back and I sold my POD Pro...

i've considered buying the green line6 delay pedal before, and just didn't because i didn't have the money.........i now know that i will NEVER buy it.

I know this is totally going to piss some of you off.
And hijack the thread.
But when it comes to effect pedals.....

Analog>Digital

There, I said it. You can stone me to death now.

One of the guitarists I play live with uses a Line6 Flextone combo amp. It`s about the size of a fender twin and has a pedal board with it. He pretty much uses one preset that sounds like a hot fat blackface deluxe. I don't ever turn around and say that doesn't sound authentic, I just groove with the tones cause they are really good. I'm not familiar with any other models.

Check this out:

Or this. I really would love to have both.

I bought a digital delay back in the mid 80's. An SDE-1000. Simple to use. Still sounds as good as it ever did.

But a lot of today's stuff is too many layers of menus and trying to "do" a bunch of stuff; maybe a couple patches really shine, but taken as a whole what you get is affordable mediocrity.

I still dig gear that does one thing and really does it well.

I hope Line-6 get's the point...

the thread on HC is even more brutal (informative)...

on the other hand, my Frontier Designs Tango AD/DA convert failed after 6 years, and they fixed it for $50 and I had it back in one week... very customer service friendly and reasonable...

You know what, that's a hell of an idea. If they promote their product more as software rather than as an amp, then they should offer software like pricing. Almost every software company gives you discounted upgrades, so why shouldn't they when you go up to the next major revision?

Are you listening, Line 6? :D
