I don't think it's dead, it's just evolved in to different styles.

Quite right. It is very much alive in all forms. I saw a few videos of guys today doing the hair metal thing..costumes and all:drunk:

The thing is that for a decade it was partially mainstream, so you hair band haters should look at the fact that no other metal type (maybe Mettalica) has ever gotten a foothold in there. (and I predict none shall ever again)

All you have to do is turn off MTV and the radio and quit worrying about it.
Metal is truly alive and well today.

Not a person or a group.

Power chords killed metal. If you can't play the guitar, go do something else.

Perhaps hip hop killed Metal...In the 80's I started noticing some white guys I knew growing up started talking differently with a "blackcent"...They were trying to act black...Im not a racists or anything however I found it kind of odd.

People used to crank metal songs when driving however then I noticed the hip hop and sub woofer thing happening more.

The next generation also seemed to try and act black as well...nothing more sad than some rich white kid from the suburbs trying to act all gangsta...its a bit pathetic.

-----------

Remember how Justin Timberlake used to talk with a "Blackcent" and now he doesnt...thats the type of thing Im talking about.

I guess rap and hip hop was cooler than metal and you could use that loud sub woofer in your car and make sure everyone knows your coming.

----------

Off topic slightly...Can someone explain why Bon Jovi is still around making records when other bands from the 80's are no longer around...I dont really understand that...Who is buying their records?

Also wonder why U2 is still aound as well although I have not seen much from them lately.

Metal was never "Destroyed" it was made uncool when grunge came along.Im not hatin on grunge (Nirvana is my 2nd fav band EVER:D ) . And I realize im copying a ton of ppl in this thread but I dont care:)

Metal is like every other genre that has ever existed. It begins, it gains popularity, it becomes the dog's bollocks, seemingly taking over the world, it peaks, it slowly slides downhill, it mutates into [many] sub-genres, it regroups in the face of new competitors, it becomes part of the establishment/mainstream though it carries a semblence of being cooly 'outsider' and it's adherents declare limitless undying love as they themselves discover that they're just regular people after all. Bah~bing !

Obviously nothing and nobody killed Metal, and never will. As long there is injustice in the world, Metal will be here to fight it! Boo-yah!

I don't care who did or didn't kill metal, but I wish someone would kill this thread.

pap smear.

:)

LOL

Now let see ...Video killed the radio star.
Water killed the wicked witch of the west.
And a sting ray killed Steve Irwin.
Yeah I would have to agree with DB it was pap smear.
That and a wee bit of Cajun metal kazoo playing ~ ~ ~ :laughings:

None of the ones listed for sure...or Nirvana...and WTF is up with Bad Religion?!?! How does a good old punk band fall into ruining metal? If anything add Metalica to the list. They sold it out and fucked it up IMO. But hey, everyone has their own opinions and those are just mine. :drunk:
