No, that's In Living Color.

Living Colour was a band. You know..."Cult Of Personality". Or maybe you don't.

Vernon Reid is the real deal. The lead singer wearing Body Glove on stage...I'll leave you to your own opinion on that one.

Thats funny

Why? because closeminded teens thought it was cool and forgot about metal :( . Hell, they even forgot about alternative.

Nirvana woke up teens and they realized, spandex, neon colors, eyeliner and long permed hair was not cool.

I disagree that Metal was destroyed, rather it was glam rock & poser metal that was decimated. Not a moment to soon IMO.

Mastodon are IT.

Kind of. Vocals are too harsh. Although I did hear their latest album (coming out July) I know someone who works at Sony Studios. I actually am not a big fan of most of their stuff, but I'm absolutely picking up that album. It kicks some major ass, and they stepped up with the vocals too, you'll hear what I mean when you get it :D

What's all this talk about destroying metal? Are you a fucking idiot?

Metal is alive and well and it always has been. The best thing that ever happened to metal was the disappearance of it's imposters in the mainstream.

Agreed. They're not reinventing the wheel or anything, I just think they're better than just about anyone right now. A lot of people were bummed at the major label debut, but I love it. They're moving closer to slightly more melodic stuff, and I think it's perfect. To me, they sum up old styles of metal and new styles of metal perfectly.

One thing's for sure, they've got the best goddamn drummer in the whole genre, IMHO.

The person who started this thread doesn't understand what metal is.

Damn right

Scissor cuts paper and paper covers rock, but nothing crushes metal baby!!

Hell yeah. I've really been steering away from that pre-packaged bullshit, and they've been pushing away from these shitty song structures and playing how the riffs deserve to be played. One thing that caught me off gaurd... They actually sing on the next album. AMAZING DRUMMER. He loves beatin the shit out of that snare though. Best? Ouch, bad word. Drummer from decapitated is damn good too, except they're different styles of metal.

Yeah I know, best is indeed a strong word. He's definately my personal favorite. You pretty much have to be a good drummer to play metal anyway. Unless of course you're in Venom or Darkthrone maybe. It's one thing to play all that shit, it's another thing altogether to be that tasty about it. He was just as good when he was in Today is the Day.

I heard rumor from a band who knows Mastodon that recording their new record proved to be a real pain in the ass. I guess because it was the first time they had an actual 'producer' who was putting his paws in their actual songwriting and arranging than they were used to dealing with. Who knows, it may turn out for the better.

Oh, and I definately agree that Metal really hasn't gone anywhere. To me, it's about the only genre left with any real respectability, even as perverted as it got with all those shit ass nu metal bands. The entire 'indie' world can officially suck it.

I don't know who killed it, but Mastodon is bringing it back.

Indeed...Leviathan is such a brutal record...and I love's me some of the stoner rock elements in their music; makes them pretty unique IMO...

that could be debated I suppose, but yeah he is a super badass....

I just got done recording my album with the former drummer from The Agony Scene...if you haven't heard that guy, go check him out....I'll tell you one thing for sure....he doesn't suck. :D

The Agony Scene

As long as Nirvana is gone I'll be HAPPY!!! But for metal being dead....well, real metal is never played on the radio, never has, cus its too "vulgar", unless it is at 2:00am on some obscure public radio show. The comercial stuff that is played on the radio I don't consider metal, real metal is underground, the stuff that that can't be found in every record store, the stuff that is usually always pushed to the back of the racks. Although metal has been accepted more these days than in the past, I feel that the comercialization of metal has made it too sterile by having to adhere to "rules", and that is the whole point of metal, to get awy from rules and tell everyone else to f*&^ off and die :D. When my local radio station starts playing bands like Napalm Death, Canibal Corps, God Flesh, Obituary, Carnal Decimate, etc..then metal will have truley taken over, but for now I am happy the way it is, cus Nirvana is gone. Anyway I done rambling....

OK its not DEAD but its not accepted like in the old days. Thats what I mean!

Living Colour was awesome. Vernon Reid is a smoking guitar player. Their singer Corey Glover is Danny Glover's son.

Where did you get the idea that Corey is Danny's son? According to Danny's bio on IMDB, Danny has a (divorced) spouse and one child-a daughter. On the all-music version of the IMDB, there is no mention of a connection whatsoever. No mention is made on Corey's website or the wikipedia entries of either actors.

The only mention of such a connection I found is on a couple blogs which doesn't represent anything factual.

You're right, and it's lack of acceptance as compared to the 80's is more than likely what made it start getting really good again.
