Where the fuck is the god damn 703?!

I've called all over northern VA (where I live), and no one sells it. I called Owens Corning (the manufacturer) and they refered me to a dude in Frederick, MS, who practically laughed at me. So he referred me to a place in Baltimore (Building Specialties). They are all off in the bars drinking at happy hour this afternoon...

Bizzare stuff. Thread after thread after thread speaks about the great utility of this stuff like is was made by god, for soundproofing: "...just use some 703..." Yeah right!

If I could only find the crap.

[poll to follow.]

Check around with some places in Texas. There is a Corning factory south of Dallas. Maybe they make some there and if they do then you could surely find a distributor.

I suppose I'll have to drive out there to pick up my lousy order of 4 sheets of it.

I'm actually considering the option of creating it myself. Compressed insullation. That should be easy to do.

I got mine from ATS Acoustics. The website.

Thanks for the link. It looks like they, ATS, take 703, wrap some fabric around it, and sell it to you for about 4x what you can get it for. I've seen a price of $32 for a 4x8 foot sheet of 2" 703. So I'm hoping to get it directly.

But thanks anyway.

Better poll options would have been:

1) Up my ass
2) Up your ass
3) Up his ass
4) Up her ass
5) Up an asses ass
....

You can get it raw too. Look harder silly.

willing to drive to lancaster PA?

Maybe. A weekend would be better for me. I'm down between Frederick and Leesburg.

A couple things wheni was looking:
1. check for equivalents. I bought Johns Mansfield and it was good (you can see on some of the pages with tables that compare the various noise absorbtion stats what other manufacturers offer).
2. look for industrial supply shops. Most retail operations won't carry the stuff. Who ever supplies the contractors in the area probably will have it, but the normal storefronts youwould visit might not.
3. Most people, even at these store have not idea what we are talking about. When i was asking around, "rigid" insulation was only interpreted as the foam stuff that goes over sheathing on houses, and i had to be fairly insistent (really, could you look up and see if you can order it? Hmm, maybe if you called your supplier they could tell you..."). I got lucky because I found someone who when i pushed decided he really wanted to help, ended up calling the supplier and found out that they (big lumber mill and building supply place) were able to carry it, and sent me to a place that wasn't even in the phone book that i could find.

Good luck!

Northern VA, you say? Here's an insulation company that has locations scattered across Maryland and Virginia: http://www.mccormickinsulation.com/

Get in touch with these guys and tell them you want some Johns Manville 817, which is cheaper and specs out better than OC 703. More important, JM 817 really exists and is obtainable on planet Earth.

P.S. That was some pretty strong language for a poet, Jack. I'm surprised at you!

Actually, it's up Owen-Corning's ass. Well, at least it seems to be coming out of Owen-Corning's ass.
What, like you've never seen it rain 703 rigid fiberglass on a cool Autumn day before....yeah, I'm buying that one.

Not to jack your thread...but it's even more crazy trying to locate (similar) stuff over here in Europe :(

This wont help but if it makes you feel any better, the suppliers down here in western North Carolina don't know what 703 is either. Foam, celulose, rolls of pink or yellow stuff are easy to find, rigid fiberglass is a whole different thing.

if you think finding 703 is hard..

try finding some Johns Manville 817....

(and i thought this thread might help me out)

better yet try to find some--- Microlite XG - Acoustical Performance 2"

good luck with that

(ive contacted JM to find an online retailer... ill let you know if theres any luck)

I guess I should have mentioned in my previous thread that I actually purchased JM 817 from McCormick Insulation, and it was as easy as making one phone call to place the order and one car trip to pick up the merchandise. The people at McCormick were pleasant, helpful, and completely unconcerned that I only wanted two bundles of 817. (Nine sheets in each).

Call 'em, Jack.
