I personally would really like to see VST plugin support, so that I could use a UAD-1 card. Also I would like to see control surface support.

-=UAD-1 Support (VST Plugins)=-
Recently I was toying with the idea of getting a UAD-1. I realized that is it such a pain using a DX wrapper so I *evaluated* :) other programs like Nuendo and Cubase. I hated every moment of it. Those programs require too many steps to get something accomplished. SYNTRILLIUM GET ON IT RIGHT NOW!!

-=Control Surface Support=-
I was also looking into a control surface for my setup. I realized that Red Rover is a waste of time and that no other major controller maker *with motorized faders* supports them. I don't really even need a control surface to work CEP, but I would love to have one for client WOW factor and know that I would eventually love having the control surface. SYNTRILLIUM GET ON IT RIGHT NOW!!

-=Soundfont support would be awesome too ('nuff said)=-

As I get more prepared to offer my studio out to clients, I realize I need a lot of these goodies to attract customers. It is sad but true. Sure I could buy a big console and use it primarily for preamps and headphone mixes, but I don't want to waste the money or space. Bottom line is that unless these factors (minus soundfonts) get addresed, I may have too look elsewhere for a software that can support these things.

I don't want to though really!! (But I do have Sonar 2.0XL and it does support control surfaces, but I still opt for CEP2)

I voted controller support. Hell, it doesn't even have to be brand specific.. at least accept MIDI controller messages so I can use any midi controller or digital mixer. BTW... I pimp the Fostex VM200 digital mixer as the best control surface for under $500 there is. Even if you never used it as a digital mixer, it blows the Tascam, Event, and Edirol away. And it has motorized faders!

Along that line, I wish the damn mixer faders in the mixer view would correspond to the level envelope! Maybe even an automation track like Nuendo/Cubase SX uses. That way I could record fader moves instead of manually adding handles and manipulation the envelopes.

And while they're at it, add dedicated track meters!!!!! WTF???
Oh.. and one last request.... add a Chris Harris magic mix preset so I can sound just like him!

Anywho, those are minor given the price. However, CEP is really falling behind the times compared to other programs.

...SoundFont support ? You're taking a too long leap man. It didn't even support MIDI that much. I will vote for enhancing on MIDI support, whether internal (SoundFonts, Soft Synth,etc...) and external... (CC, SysEX, Sync, etc...).

;)

I voted for soundfont support, but I would like VST usability just as much.

I would also like Cool to work with Fruity Loops, both open at the same time - I use both apps a lot and it is *extremely* cumbersome - when they're both open at the same time they crash my computer worse than anything else. I've mentioned it at both the Syntrillium and Fruity Loops forums, but of course, each team thinks it's the other team's problem. Wrong! It's my problem. Gee, I wish they'd talk to each other.

- Hide/Show/Resize height of tracks.
- Move tracks WITH the track settings (EQ, FX etc)
- Copying fx/eq/envelope settings

Not much else.. CEP2 is da bomb.

VST support? Get a VST Wrapper and forget it.. I have been using VST plugins with CEP for a year now..

Sound Font Support for sure!

Right on! Some of those bigger features would be nice, but don't forget these little UI touch-ups that would be sooo nice.

I think Cool Edit is great. Use it for almost all my recording projects. But I would just like to see bug fixes in the next release.

One that's always bothered me is in the dialog that allows you to set the volume (among other parameters) for the whole track. When I type the number 1, for example, in the volume text box, close the dialog and reopen it the number is always something just under 1, like .99 or .98. This is a very simple fix to make. Also (I consider a bug), in the same dialog, there should be a cancel button. I should be able to change the volume, pan etc, hear the change, decide I liked what I had before and click Cancel. Again, an easy change to make.

If CEP allows insertion of midi files, I would like CEP to include editing functions or/and the midi file to be included in the final mixdown.

Scott...which VST Wrapper do you use? I mainly only want VST so that I can use the UAD-1. I would love to have a software 1176 or an LA2A. Their reverb is supposed to be awesome too. And the guitar amp simulator could be fun.

I have read into Fxpansion's wrapper and it sounds good. But, Waves Native is doing the job nicely right now. I really don't want to spend $600 on the UAD-1 card and then $50 on the wrapper and have it work less than 100% perfect.

Meshuggah - I totally agree with you. Those envelopes can be such a pain to draw. And when you copy and paste they don't stay. Of course you could just mix that track down, but you won't be able to change it later.

Oh, yeah - another thing I would *really* like Cool to have is an automatic track effect history - every effect applied with the settings used. Lovely.

Maybe I'm talking apples and oranges here, but some kind of drum sequencing program with about 200 kick and snare samples included in the program would kick ass. CEP already has the ability to use ".cel" files, so the next logical step to me would be to be able to create your own .cel files so that the tempo could be changed with the track session(s).

And some kind of "Make everything sound big, yet distinct, yet warm, yet punchy all at the same time" button. I'd pay an extra $10 for that button...LOL.

Well maybe a mixer type fuction, has all the tracks and you can move around faders instead of using the envelope lines. Maybe they already sort of do? I don't know. This hasn't been mentioned, but it'd be nice to have a bit more control over the colour. Instead of a gray multitrack background...you know, I haven't been able to change that, or change the wave colour and wave background in multitrack view separately, instead of having 2 shades of whatever colour. Kind of stupid but it'd be cool. Later.

2.0's got all that RTC - the mixer window in 2.0 has faders, but of course you can only work one at a time if you're mousing, which is why Syntrillium sell the box, the Red Rover, so you can get your hands on real knobs.

And, you can tweak colors to your heart's content in Options>Settings>Colors.

I know about the mixer, but I'd be nice to have one big one for all the tracks together. I know about the colours, but I still have yet to get rid of the grey in the multitrack. Only colour I can't get rid of. It's mainly the multitrack, I've already changed the colours on everything else on mine.

I guess CoolEditPro is pretty solid, because overall not many things were criticized in this thread.

It works pretty well, yeah. What people mostly want is *more* features.

I'd like to be able to move tracks around more easily in both the multitrack wave view and the Mixer view. It would be cool if you could drag and drop a track in both views so as to re-organize the layout. I know you can do some of that already but it seems the track names ( or labels) don't follow. I't would be nice to be able to just drag and drop the whole think name and all.
