what the "salesman" recommended

I couldn't agree more. Customer service in general sucks these days...

Sorry to steal your thread here lollycross.

Yup...

But customer service will return...the public is getting wise. And although a bit off target your posts relating to salesmen does add value...

...he has to know what to potentially watch out for.

O.K., about a keyboard:
As I said, I need a realistic sound for Celtic/Irish instruments.
The salesman just said the Roland Keyboards were best
for recording...he didn't even give me a # or price, but I
presume for about $1000 I could get one that sounded
like a harp, fiddle,acordian,dulcimer,drum,drone, etc.?
Any recommendations?
I use a Roland JV 2080 Sound Module, and I have the "Orchestral II" expansion card plugged into it. It has some Celtic sounds on it that I think are very authentic! If you go with a Roland keyboard, make sure you can use this expansion card in it, I know their higher end models allow for expansion cards.

Hey Lolly.
I did the same thing you did. I asked and these guys gave me some good advice.
Then I bought everything at once.
I'm a musician, not a recording engineer. That was back in July. I'm still reading the manuels.
The only thing I can suggest it to buy slow, learn as you go.
I have all this stuff and find myself bouncing around from one thing to another and not getting anything done.

The advice they have offered is good primo stuff man. They have recorded some nice tunes. Be leary of salesmen. Listen to them, but listen more to the people who use the equipment.
Good luck, Lolly. Hope you do well.

It's too bad there's no acknowledgment from the thread starter.

Heh. So true.

Eh. At least we got to vent about salesmen. We also got to increase our post count!

:D

I agree 100%.
It would have been nice if lollycross would have said "thank you", but to remain positive, lollycross might not have checked back to this thread, yet.

:D

Hi all,
Well, I am going to Oregon this weekend to finish recording our band album and I will see what is for sale in the music stores
up there. I believe I WILL get the Boss BR-8 for recording and
the Roland X30 keyboard for the backing tracks, unless
a different salesman or two, can show me where the sounds
I need can be had for under $1000. I'm in no rush, so I
want to see what they have for sale in So. Calif. next month, before I buy.
Thanks for all the opinions.
Lolly
